A very pleasant and beautifully designed colonnade tour. There is currently a group of palm trees in the middle, and in the southwest corner there is a small fountain that is pretty to look at.
Please note that all groups of columns differ in the tour. Sometimes just smooth marble, sometimes colorfully patterned and sometimes with straight furrows. Some of them are decorated with colorful and gold patterns.
Entrance fee was 7€.

Marvelous cloister, representing Byzantine architecture. There is an immense amount of small details, and each column is distinct from the others and in very good condition. It's a very pleasant stroll. Tickets were around 6 euros. We've spent about 30 minutes here.

The more you look at what at first may seem serene and peaceful, the more you become aware of the intricacies of the design. My friend pointed out to me that each of the twin column heads no was unique. I glanced around at all the columns surrounding the center green and then started looking more closely. Sure enough, each head of each of the columns was unique from every other column.

The view from the roof was also quite spectacular. Monreale is only about 10km from Palermo and definitely worth the trip; although, if you go by bus, I sure hope it’s less crowded than the one we rode.

Fantastic place to visit. It really is just the atrium of the former monastery, but have a closer look at the columns. Not two are the same and each one tells a story. Amazing craftmanship.

We returned to the cathedral and asked how we got to the cloisters, which turned out to be via a building in the square behind the cathedral.
We decided to head there before the rain actually hit so went straight inside and started the circuit of the cloisters. They were beautiful, a mix of arabic and christian designs with gorgeous elegance and simplicity. Some of the detailing on the columns was just stunning and the little fountain in one corner was lovely. They were also fairly empty of visitors. We had a peaceful 15 mins or so doing a circuit before we headed outside and into the drizzle.

As if the Duomo nearby is not enough, the cloister is extraordinarily elegant and beautiful, a masterpiece of medieval art. Each column is decorated with anthropomorphic sculptures on capitals and Islamic motifs throughout their length. The beauty Norman kings left behind left us behind is source of eternal joy and inspiration (churches, cloisters, monuments)

What a place... from the mixture of columns as no two are the same.... to the stories told on the capital of each columns....

Beautiful place to admire the intricate work of the old craftmen who carved the columns of the chiostro and enjoy a moment of silence and shadow in the garden.
