Like stepping back in time into an apothecary for the arts, Zecchi's walls are stocked with old world pigments used by pre-Renaissance and Renaissance artists, and those of us who admire them. I found the sketchbooks and charcoals I needed and left with a memory like no other.

I have shopped here on my two trips to Italy. It is like entering a beautiful dream, where everything is beautiful, yet you aren’t quite sure what everything is. Exploring an art store in a foreign country is magical. This store is like stepping back in time, when the world was kinder, slower, and things were lovingly made by hand. I am so used to ordering online and receiving tubes of paint, that it is an awakening to be reminded that there are basic pigments, and that they are created and put together. I have no idea what half of the things are that I see on the shelves, but it is like being in Wonderland. A simply amazing shop. I will be stopping in on my upcoming trip to buy some of their brand of watercolors. I cannot wait.

such a fantastic place to buy art materials.. they have plenty of gilding materials. They also produce their own materials such as paint, watercolor gessoed panels, paper and much more. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They will also ship materials overseas!!

Lovely respectful and kind staff, who treat you with the most respect, are happy to show you the historic pigments on the shelf ,answer your questions and let you take pictures. I visited here 3 times during my stay and followed their opening and closing times and had no problems. If you’re an entitled tourist that thinks they can show up 10 minutes before closing time and waste everyone’s time please try and consider the staff and don’t leave a bad review just because they couldn’t appease your selfish demands. This shop is an important historical sight just as much as any historical place in Florence and so many would be devastated to lose it. I will definitely visit here again next time I travel to Florence ❤

I've been shopping here for about 20 years now, and never once have I had a bad experience. Noawadays, as someone who was born and lives in Florence, Zecchi is probably one of the very few reasons I tolerate to walk the center of a city that is every day more tourist-oriented and less and less hospitable for its own citizens. The reason is that the shop is really unique. First of all in its supply: the things you can find here you'll have trouble finding anywhere else, and their own Zecchi branded products are such great value for money, I honestly prefer them to other famous brands.
But you'll also find a very competent and knowledgeable staff that will kindly help you with any question you may have.

People complaining about the staff regulating entrance to the shop at closing times should understand (and appreciate) that first of all, this is not a soulless franchise with no respect for its workers, and secondly should probably consider for a minute the possibility that the people working here (or in any other shop, for that matter), are not machines and may have their own lives. Shocking idea, I know.

I was on a quest for watercolor brushes of a specific brand, Tintoretto. Zecchi's had a few sizes. I was told to come back at the end of the week and they would have received a shipment. Both the men who helped me were more than kind and accommodating. It is an amazing store with so many wonderful art supplies. I highly recommend it if you are looking for art supplies while in Firenze.

Waiting for years to visit this wonderful shop! When I was in Italy last summer, I was finally able to buy Cennini's egg tempera and wonderful other supplies. The staff was extremely kind and think I was helped by Massimo. When I'm in Florence again, will go there for sure and in the meantime I can order online : )

This shop is a little piece of artistic heaven and should be preserved as much as il Duomo.
I have since used their website to order supplies and the service is first rate as are their watercolour paint pans. I can't recommend them highly enough.
