Stopped here while on the sicily divide
This is a checkpoint
The food is amazing as is the ice cream
Very friendly staff and the older lady who runs it was super nice
Definitely worth a stop if you are passing by!!

Nice cafe, great sausage sandwich and very tasty ice cream, all homemade.
The owner and staff were very sweat, kind and friendly :) perfect place for a recharge on your road trip.

We stopped off after our visit to the ruins and the owner Zia Enza served us a hearty meal of meat, potatoes, salad and complimentary oranges. She regailed us of her experience of the earthquake and couldn't have been nicer. A must for lunch if in the area.

Amazing and unexpected encounter! The owner, Enza, is lovely and super chatty. Having survived the earthquake, she will tell you everything about the ruins of Poggioreale and the life in the new town. Great food, arancine and brioche con gelato is a must!

We got lost on our way to Critta di Burro and then found this to be the only place open during siesta hour. Great atmosphere, lovely people, great sandwiches and icecream. In short: an oasis when it's 32 degrees ouside.

Funny and energized place!! Is the most wonderful host I have ever seen in this part of Italy! Go there and they are going to offer also the soul... Loved the pasta, Limoncello and the frizante wine! 🤗☺

Short stop off the main road
Excellent paninis made on the spot
The mozzarella and prosciutto arancini was great and so was the coffee

About Poggioreale
Town in Sicily, Italy

Poggioreale is a ghost town and comune in the province of Trapani, western Sicily, southern Italy, located in the Belice valley. The Economy was mostly based on agriculture and fruit cultivation. Earthquake: The Belice Valley earthquake destroyed the entire town of Poggioreale and killed 200 people in 1968. Eventually the town was rebuilt in a safer place a few kilometers south. Some of the families moved to the USA, according to a CNN article. Mayor Girolamo Cangelosi wants to bring Poggioreale back to its former glory. Some of the former residents and their families have been on organized tours of Poggioreale. They reunited using social media and the internet. According to the New York Post, Sicilians call it their modern Pompeii. Unfortunately Mayor Girolamo Cangelosi was seriously injured in an auto accident. It remains unclear what effect this may have upon his reconstruction efforts. source
