Esselunga is the best supermarket chains in Central Italy. Great display, huge selection, high high quality and best prices much much better than COOP that pretend to be the once-upon-a-time cooperative but now just ducks your wallet.

Great variety and lots of choice for those looking for ingredients for international cuisines, from French salted butter and foie gras to fresh cilantro and lemon grass. What isn't there can be ordered.

For a Canadian this was a Walmart like experience ..giant store with lots of selection..long check out lines for us who don't use the self scanner overall a great place to load up on supplies for a week

The best chain of hypermarkets in Italy!! Only there I found lots of greens, salads of all kinds, super fresh fruits, lots of discounts on fruits and veggies. Prices are really moderate. What I saw at discount in other supermarkets, here it was a standard price.. Plus unlike in some others chains trying to sell lots of low-quality plastic food, I found there an abundance of premium quality brands, regional olive oil is always available, bio tee and coffee etc. Even finding Italian sundried tomatoes without oil was a big problem (sounds weird, but I never had luck to find them in mass market stores), so I found them only in Esselunga, the same with good Italian olives. Perhaps only the choice of mineral water is limited (i.e. Lauretana is not available, or good low-mineralized bottled in glass-water is kind of lacking). Also I like the idea of their Naturama brand trying to bring higher quality (not organic, but still better than conventional) to fresh foods at more or less affordable price, comparing to bio products.. wish to have their stores on the east of RE and Umbria..

Excellent supermarket! Good choice and quality. Did not need more for our holiday needs.
