Everything at this hostel was spot on. Good rooms, good communal area, great showers and friendly members of staff. All in a wonderfully retro setting without having a 'hipster' feel to it.

Good curry downstairs too, not the usual japanese style but interesting nonetheless.

The hostel was full when I wanted to stay there again a few days later, which was a shame. I'd happily stay here again.

I visited by bicycle, and they kindly prepared a bike parking area for me. Most of the visitors were foreigners, and in the community space, I had many opportunities to talk with different travelers. It was a lot of fun.

Best hostel I've been in Japan! The common living space is beautiful, cozy, and the rooms are quiet. The staff is really friendly and the coffee is great! Arigato gozaimasu, I hope to come back in the future 🙏🏼❤

This hostel made my stay 1000% better.
Everyone was super friendly, there's a beautiful cafe downstairs and it's close to many train stations!
I'd like to give a huge thanks to the staff for being super helpful and friendly.

Had a great 4 night stay at this guesthouse. We booked a 4 bed, women only dorm and I had my own roomy bunk space with curtains and a locker. The place had good security and all the amenities I needed. Everything was clean and in working order. Good common area with cooking facilities and space to chill. We also made use of the bike-hire and had a fun time riding around Osaka, visiting some sites.

The place has a lot of character and a great relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The stand-out for me was the staff. They were so welcoming, friendly and genuine. I really enjoyed my conversations and interactions with them throughout the stay.

Fun and comfortable stay at Guesthouse U-en! The staff are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable, though it's worth noting that the building is quite old (150 years?) so isn't very soundproof. Earplugs provided! The neighbourhood is lively and interesting with alleys of restaurants and bars just around the corner. Short, easy walk from the Fukushima station on the Osaka loop line (JR). Would definitely stay again!

My FAVORITE hostel I stayed my entire trip in Japan. So quaint and authentic, while also being the perfect amount of social, clean and with a unique charm. I stayed in the 12 person dorm and it was simple and great for what it was. They have a sweet common area and the bottom level is a coffee / curry shop! The staff are also so wonderful & friendly. Thank you all for making me feel at home!! I also LOVED the area. It was on a quieter street off the beaten path, but still close to bare and shops and subway station. Pro tip- rent a bike for 500 yen a day and bike around the whole city. I loved this place and if you are in Osaka it’s a MUST!!! I made friends from all over the world :)

✅ Traditional style, kind staff, very clean
🚫 Nothing to say

5 days in this hostel were PERFECT!

A nice traditional style hostel, above a cool coffee shop. The commun are clean, and welcoming.

The staff is very friendly and kind!

Even if not in the center, you are at 5min walk to the Fukushima-station with local and JR trains!

Actually, this neighboorhood was better than the Osaka center haha

I hope to stay here whenever I'm in Osaka again, the hostel is tucked into a corner of the city close to public transportation, but still away from the chaos of the inner city. The beds are very comfortable, with great temperature in the rooms, showers and bathrooms are clean, and the kitchen is well-stocked with amenities.

But the best thing about this place is the vibe, it's small, quiet, and VERY homely. You will immediately feel comfortable and at-home when you arrive, which is something many travelers are desperate for. It's also well priced, so if you're debating staying here, this is your sign that you should!

An amazing little guest house with the best curry in Osaka! Staff are super friendly and very helpful and Knowledgeable! Non-chan girl who works the coffee area makes a great cup off coffee in the AM! All the showers, bathrooms, and beds were super comfortable and clean. I really loved hanging out in the common room at the end of the night because of the cool slide doors with a bonsai tree on them. Some of the staff told me that the hotel is super old and their might be ghosts!! LOL love it! Prices are reasonable around 25-40 USD. Location is good and train line is easy to get to! If you need a rest and want somewhere cheap to stay this is it!

Incredible place that’s a temporary home to some of the friendliest most interesting people I’ve met in Japan. I’ll absolutely come back next time I’m in Osaka. The coffee shop downstairs makes delicious drinks and the curry is a must have. Can’t rave about this place enough!

This is a lovely hostel with homey facilities, kind people, and a great location. I enjoyed being right off of the metro line and walking around the shops and restaurants nearby. I highly recommend staying here in Osaka!

Great experience at this guesthouse, a lovely old building, staff were very friendly and accommodating and made sure to clearly explain the workings of the guesthouse to us. They were happy to take our luggage for free before and after our checking in and out respectively, which was a lifesaver. Beds were suitably comfy and you get a good and relatively private amount of space. Showers were clean and had a good amount of water pressure. Free tea is on offer, you pay for breakfast and for coffee if you want them. There were 2 nice communal areas.

Great place! The shared room is spacious, fully equipped with a kitchen, washing machine an dryer. Showers are clean, the beds are confortables and it is close to Fukushima station (JR Pass works).

Still, what I preferred the most was the atmosphere: you are in a traditional house that was transformed into a guesthouse! Your room will smell like wood and, if it rains, you'll fall asleep to the sound of the rain. The coffee shop on the first floor also adds to the charm! As for the area, the surrounding streets are amazing at night, full of small restaurants.

There is also a 7-11 nearby, so if you prefer to buy stuff and come back "home", you can definitely do so.

incredible service and accommodating to us who arrived in Osaka after 10 pm. they were able to show us around in English and were extremely kind and hospitable. after I left, I even received an email if I had forgotten an item (the item was left before I arrived) but so kind for them to be so willing.

I love this place - very cozy and my favorite place to stay in Osaka. Dormitory/bunk style rooms (but they also have private rooms) - nice shared space for cooking and hanging out. Private shower stalls. Comfortable Cafe downstairs. All of the staff is so nice and welcoming. Really easy access to JR Tozai, Hanshin Kosuko-Kobe, and JR Osaka Loop lines. Food, drink, and convenience stores nearby. Overall a great place to call home for days, or weeks!

Cutest guesthouse! The staff is amazing. They have a common area where you can truly feel relaxed. I was in the 6 person room, and my bed was SO comfortable. It felt like I had a little own private room, even with a mirror and locker inside but it was a bunk bed. The hostel is also next to a JR train stop
