This temple and its grounds are beautifully built and immaculately kept, whilst not being over the top. Unfortunately, whilst it's quite peaceful and quiet, there's nowhere really to sit in the temple itself to meditate or otherwise enjoy the temple. Still, you can appreciate the simple yet stunning temple design and details, walk around the paths and take photos, and pray.

For over fourteen centuries, Shi-Tennoji Buddhist Temple has stood as a testament to Osaka's rich cultural and religious heritage. Built in 593 AD, this magnificent temple complex embraces visitors with its serene ambiance and captivating architectural beauty.

Upon entering the temple grounds, one is immediately greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of the five-story pagoda, an iconic symbol of Japanese Buddhism. The pagoda reaches towards the sky, its elegant structure adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant colors that mesmerize even the most jaded of travelers. As you ascend the steps to each floor, the fragrant aroma of incense and the soft sound of chanting envelop you in a tranquil and introspective atmosphere.

Nice and big temple, with many things to see and learn. I’ve spent over 2 hours reading and seeing the behavior of the people that follow this religion, and it is very interesting.
There are a few places with different interactions and most of them are explained (google translator will be needed)

Nice place to understand other’s religions!!

Shitenno-ji, located in Osaka, Japan, is one of the country's oldest Buddhist temples with a rich history spanning over 1,400 years. Founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, a key figure in Japanese Buddhism, the temple holds significant cultural and religious importance. It was constructed to promote Buddhism and serve as a center for learning and enlightenment. The original architecture was influenced by Chinese and Korean styles, reflecting the era's international connections.

Throughout its existence, Shitenno-ji faced destruction and reconstruction multiple times, with the current structures dating back to the 1963 restoration. The complex consists of a main hall, lecture hall, and a five-story pagoda. Shitenno-ji continues to be a revered site, attracting pilgrims and visitors seeking spiritual solace. Its serene gardens and historic artifacts contribute to the temple's status as a symbol of Japan's religious and architectural heritage.

Beautiful eye-catching temple which holds wonderful weekday markets selling all sorts of bric-a-brac, food items and other wares.

Enjoy the surrounding area, food and great views.

The first Buddha temple built by a prince. If you cannot read Japanese, there is little to no information in English, however I still recommend visiting. The temple sits on large ground and the area is very quiet despite being in the city.

My visit coincide with their monthly market which was nice. It's a local flea market selling a range of items. On top of that, entrance fee to the temple was waived. We got to climb the tower too for free which was a bonus.

One of Japan's oldest temples built by the state. It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who introduced Buddhism into Japan. Beautiful and calm.

Fairly easy to get to, this is a really big temple with lots to see although no English explanations. We were lucky and got to visit for free however, which was nice. There are a lot of steps up the pagoda! There's a bit of a view but if you're already worn out then don't worry! Just wander around the other buildings Instead!

This is a beautiful temple. The courtyard is spacious and serene, filled with the sound of chanting monks and the fragrance of incense. The treasure house contains two huge statues of Buddha and offers a place for quiet prayer and meditation. The Pagoda is accessible and can be climbed via a small spiral staircase. It was a great religious experience for us.

There is a bus travel near the station to the temple. This is a special temple in the city, surrounded by tall buildings. So, when I walked inside its area, it's like walking into a totally different universe. It is convenient to travel and worth going.

This was honestly one of my favorite temples that I visited while in Japan. The day I visited it was incredibly rainy, so there were not very many people at the temple. This made for great picture taking. I really enjoyed how beautiful the temple was as well as the care taken to maintain the facilities around the temple. I highly recommend visiting this temple if you have the time.

This temple, despite being in the heart of the city, is surprisingly quiet and serene. The grounds are well maintained and the different buildings and pools of water (with lots of turtles) make for some nice views. Definitely recommended if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Osaka but want a place that's easily accessible by metro

I went just before it closed, sadly I wasn’t given access but was allowed a few pictures by the door.
It was gorgeous and large. The space was large and freeing which is a contrast to its surroundings.
Lots of shops around the plateau in their own little houses.
