Highly recommend this tour! My partner and I honestly had the best day! The tour guide, John, and the tour itself was above all our expectations. Seeing the snow monkeys, followed by the most amazing, authentic Japanese lunch, and seeing Zenkoji temple at the end was a day to remember. Being able to see and taste food and wine/sake from local shops nearby (throughout the tour) gave us the full experience we were after whilst being in Japan. We encourage everyone to book this tour, as you will be blown away.
A special thanks to John who did an amazing job as the tour guide, super friendly, knowledgeable and charismatic. We learned so much, and we now have this tour as a special, lifelong memory. Thank you.

Had a great time on the tour! The snow monkeys were amazing. The lunch was really nice and I really enjoyed the Hokusai Museum and Zenkoji Temple. Our tour guide Rob was very knowledgeable and provided me with a better understanding of the culture of the area. Highly recommend going if you have the opportunity. You will be glad you did!

Had a great tour to the snow monkeys and the temple with John as a guide. He made the tour really interesting, was very knowledgeable and it was great to hear specifics of Japanese history and culture from an American who has been living in Japan for many years. As a bonus we had one of the best lunches during our trip to Japan - we can only recommend this tour!

We had a fantastic day tour! Big shout to our tour guide John, who is very knowledgeable and really fun; he knows about the area and Japan and shares along the way. The lunch was a delicious hotpot at a restaurant in a cute little village.

had an amazing day on the snow monkey & temple tour. Rob was a fantastic guide who kept us entertained with both historical & fun facts. our volunteer guide at the temple was also amazing & try the dark walk under the main temple for a different experience, it’s pitch black. tour was convenient with 3 pickups in hakuba. lunch was delish & caters for vegans & celiacs. highly recommend the tour.

I took the tour with John who was such a knowledgeable and engaging tour guide. I was picked up on time at the Echoland Hakuba Base Camp bus station. We had a wonderful drive to the Snow Monkey park. On the way we discussed the history of the region. It was fascinating to hear John's insight, as he has lived in the area for around 30 years. The Snow Monkeys were amazing. There were several in the bath at any given time, with other monkeys coming and going. After the monkeys, we visited the historic Obuse town, where I had a great fish sukiyaki lunch, which was better than expected. I also visited the sake brewery. I wish we had another 15 minutes of time in this town because I missed the Hokusai Museum, which, in hindsight, is something I should have done. We ended at the temple in Nagano, which had a very expansive ground. I took so many photos that my phone ran out of juice, so bring an battery backup. I was dropped off at Nagano train station, instead of going back to Hakuba, which made my transit to my next destination all the easier. Cheers John and everyone! Thanks for a great tour.

Amazing day trip to see the snow monkey's, hot pot lunch in a small village and visiting a temple. Well worth the cash for the ease of getting to what are pretty remote places, especially in winter. Our tour guide, John was absolutely lovely, very knowledgable about Japan in general and you could tell he has a passion for Japan and its culture and people. Would highly recommend!!

We did the snow monkey and temple tour with Mimi she was absolutely fantastic and told us the most amazing facts about Hakuba and Japan and Japanese culture in general. The other tour they do to see the castle, sake brewery and miso factory also sounds amazing and if we had been there for longer we definitely would have done that tour as well. The lunch was a traditional Japanese hot pot and exploring the local town was also a lot of unexpected fun.

We had a good time with our back country touring guide for the first day. Sadly the weather turned and the snow was so bad the guide on the second day told us we’d be better off not doing another day. We had three days booked. I contacted Ski Japan about this and asked what could be done. They simply said we don’t care, you have to pay. What’s odd is a) the guide said he’d be happy to not charge us as the conditions were awful (freezing point was above the highest peak and we had had rain for an entire evening before so heavy and slushy), b) we said we’d happily exchange the guiding for any other service we could do in the conditions such as coaching, c) the conditions meant back country guiding was not only not possible but dangerous. Their inflexibility to address the reality of the situation was astounding. I would never book through them again and would advise you simply book with guides / instructors directly who are reasonable and sensible about the fact that sometimes it’s not possible to honour a booking. They will also not advise you proceed in spite of the obvious indicators it’s dangerous and a bad experience. I would advise you avoid using Ski Japan as an incompetent intermediate and just book directly with companies / guides / instructors in the resorts you are going to directly.
