This is the stairway entrance to 大山寺。entrance fee was 300yen per person. There’s a path on the left side of the stairways that leads to another shrine . We didn’t take it as the weather was too cold. Else it would be a lovely 15mins stroll in the woods. This is probably free.

Quiet and peaceful temple on a hilltop. Beautiful view!Recommended for the sunny day, there is quite a climb up to the temple.

Went in the autumn. Not as crowded as other more popular temples. Reading the other comments, I agree that this temple can be beautiful in all seasons.

One of my favorite places in all of the Chugoku region. Daisen-ji is a peaceful stroll through the mountain town and towards an increasingly serene respite partway up Mt. Daisen. Beautiful in any time of year.

We went during autumn and it was beautiful! Locals here are very friendly, were absolutely delighted to see our 6 yr old daughter hiking with us. Although we didn't do the summit, the walking trails offer a fantastic view of Daisen and the National Park. Daisen is indeed a chubby version of Mt Fuji. We saw some interesting bugs and moss too.

Very cool temple. There is a small fee of 300 yen but it is worth it. There are a ton of small paths all around to walk and do trekking. There is also a river and a waterfall nearby you can go to. After visiting the temple you can walk around a bit and then stop to have something for lunch in the small town right next to the temple.

Walked to the top of Mt Daisen. Really not a beginner's walk, a reasonable degree of fitness required I think. It's fairly steep, 1:4 I think for most parts. My legs are feeling it right now.

View about half way up (starting from ~700m at Daisen-ji) was the best in my opinion, but the top is very good nonetheless. Bring a camera for sure.

Since it is Alpine conditions, weather is very changeable, so plan accordingly.

You'll probably want to take hiking poles too. Not for the way up, but for coming down. It's steep, the steps are big, and there's often loose-ish rocks. Also can be quite wet being so high up.

Worth it though I think.

Peaceful path, a lot of ancient trees and peaceful nature. The temple is under restoration.

I love Daisen, it's beautiful in all seasons and definitely worth the climb. Make sure you go up to Ogamiyama shrine via the 800 year old paved road!

Here in early march and while access tougher due to slushy conditions, it was still a great outing.
