(Ltd.) Shimada store sake

One of the highlights of our Japan trip. Truly a hidden gem, 3rd generation family owned sake shop with the coolest hidden cellar for tastings. We tried sake that you can only find at this shop. Reasonable at 222 yen per tasting glass, you pick how many you want to try. Quieter charming area (in a good way) with cafes & restaurants for before or after. There's also a great local pottery shop nearby called Dandelion if you want to grab a sake set. Highly recommend!

An absolute gem! The owner is super friendly. Our server was also so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We also bought two different souvenir sake glasses to take home with us. This was our first try of sake and it was a very good experience. If we are ever in Osaka again we will definitely come back here. It was also really unique to drink in the basement 🤣

Wonderful sake tasting experience at a reasonable price. Everything about this makes you feel like you truly found a "hidden spot." If you are going to do sake tasting at just one place in Osaka, make it here. Plus, the staff is exceptionally friendly and engaged with the customers. English and Japanese spoken comfortably.

Great place for sake and sake tasting. They are so nice and even took us in 15 mins before closing for a quick tasting.

For anyone looking to try Japanese sake this is the place. We were very lucky and the lovely family that run the place were so generous with their time. The owner even took us up to meet his wife and showed us all the different porcelain, clay cups in his personal collection. He called it his “treasure”. And it was.

Hidden deep in the tall buildings of a quiet section of Osaka is probably the best sake experience one could find possibly across the entirety of Japan. The cellar of Shimada Store is authentic and relaxing, pair that with an excellent selection of sake (most of it aged) and super attentive knowledgeable service from our host, you could not have asked for a better place to taste sake. It of course is simply an added bonus that the sake is hand chosen for you, unlimited as to how many glasses you would like and costs only 222 Yen per glass.

We had an amazing time, thank you very much for the experience and if I ever find myself in Osaka again you better bet I will visit.

10 out of 10 would recommend to do in Osaka. They have an English menu and English explanations of the sakes. It’s a beautiful old shop and the owner is kind and welcoming. You will feel like part of a special club enjoying this basement sake tasting.

This is a unique sake experience for lovers of Nihonshu and those looking to further their knowledge. A super shop on the ground floor and a very impressive "sake cave" in the basement where you can taste at your leisure. Extremely hospitable owners will guide you along your tasting journey.

Just amazing. A must do if you visit Osaka! You can taste sake from all over the country, and it’s definitely an experience that stays with me.

I remember going to this sake store years ago and had an amazing experience with the help of a local guide from the hostel that I was staying at. One of the most memorable sakes was an aged sake that was a light golden hue in color. I've attached a photo below (I think the kanji is 京月夢), so if you have a chance to try this sake, I would 100% do so.

Really cool underground place to do some sake tasting. They have a special 21 yo sake that only they make, buy one bottle before you leave, won't find it anywhere else.

Amazing and authentic experience here. We did the tasting and everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ended up getting 2 bottles and my sister left with one. We are very excited to share them back home

Cool place to check out. They speak a little English but not great. Definitely check this place out if you want to try a lot of sake.

Awesome sake shop and very gracious hosts. Amazing basement with sake tasting, much better than any of the breweries we visited. Knowledgeable and happy to share with a good level of English which was handy as our Japanese is pretty basic.
I'd recommend calling in here before heading out to any breweries.

Quaint subterranean tasting cellar with massive sake selection. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. English speakers will have no problems at all.

This was the exact sake experience I had been hoping for! The owner was incredibly kind and helpful and we tried 6 varieties of delicious sake. And, the atmosphere was wonderful as the tasting room is in the basement cellar. Very cool!
