Hozenji

I had the pleasure of visiting Hozenji, a small temple nestled in the heart of the bustling city, and I was instantly captivated by its tranquil ambiance and mesmerizing beauty. As I approached the temple gate, I couldn't help but notice its unassuming facade, which belied the captivating charm that awaited within.

The moment I set foot on the temple grounds, I was greeted by a sense of calmness that seemed to permeate the air. The first thing that caught my eye was the enchanting deity statue covered entirely in a vibrant carpet of moss. It was truly a sight to behold, as if nature itself had cradled the statue with its gentle touch. The moss-covered deity served as a captivating centerpiece, exuding a unique aura of tranquility and reverence.

This is a temple that, as soon as you step in, it feels very peaceful, small but very noble and beautiful. It's so cute to have cats. It's very close to Dotonbori, so don't miss it if you're going to visit it.

It's a very small shrine a few meters away from Dotonbori. Went here early morning on a Monday, so not much people. If you're interested in shrines then this is a must. However, if you're not then I don't really recommend visiting this unless you specifically want to see the famous moss-covered statue.

This place is pretty small. If you blink you'll miss it. Although small, it is very famous, and people from all over the world come here to throw water on the statue. I always seem to find this place at night, and it has an otherworldly feel to it. The temple cats are always fun to visit, too!

Pour water on Budah, pray and thank the gods or anything good that happened to you. It is believed that this statue can bring good fortune to you...

Beautiful temple in the heart of Dotonbori area. Moss covered image where you put water 3 times, make an offering and make a prayer. Can get overrun by tourists as its in Dotonbori but very beautiful

Always visit this temple whenever land in Osaka. Gives you some peace within. Good contrast from the busy tourists attractions just steps away.

Charming little shrine in the buzzing centre of Osaka, next to Doutonbori. It's the perfect place to escape from the bussy Doutonbori and enjoy the peace and quiet and the statue that is completely covered in moss.

Tiny little temple in Osaka, in the passageway of a street. Apparently in the same spot all the vendors of the souvenirs to worshippers for other temples in Osaka used to gather here and eventually created their own mini temple for their use which became popular and visited by other people. It has a moss covered statue of a Japanese goddess of fortune. Very interesting and quaint.

I may have an obsession with chōchin; the Japanese lantern.

Whenever I am in Namba, (which was usually about once a year prior to 'the thing'), I find myself drawn magnet-like to this little buddhist temple tucked down an alleyway in downtown Dotonbori, near Namba station.

What’s the attraction? chōchin

The lanterns are gorgeously designed, well-maintained, and at night providing a burst of colour and light that is impossible to ignore.

it’s usually fairly quiet and you should respect that silence by projecting your own quietness.

After a moment of reflection, where I can gather my spirits, I tend to leave here with a quiet joy in my heart, ready to experience what the universe has in store for me!

Amazing little Temple tucked away in the Dotonbori shopping area. We saw it both at night time and during the day we'll worth taking the time to find it amongst all the busy shoppers.

This was very cool. Wanted to have a closer look but was too busy due to all the people praying. Which added to the authenticness of the whole experience. Well worth the minor detour from the bright lights as area is very interesting to walk through
