Naoshima Park in Japan is a stunning blend of nature and contemporary art. Known for its outdoor sculptures and the Benesse House Museum, the park offers a serene escape with beautiful coastal views. The seamless integration of art and environment creates a unique, inspiring experience. Ideal for art lovers and those seeking tranquility, Naoshima Park is a must-visit destination.

The best place to explore all the art on Naoshima island with priory access to the Benesse museum and a free island shuttle facility. The rooms are a little bit outdated, but what a privilege to sleep in a building designed by Tada Ando. Walking distance to the Benesse museum, the Lee Ufan museum and the Chichu and on the way there do not miss the Walter de Maria sculptures and the Valley Gallery with Kusama’s work. And the bug landmark Kusama pumpkin is just in front of the hotel. You need to book the hotel well in advance, because in high demand, and also reserve a table (only for guests) in either the Park hotel or in the Benesse museum restaurant.

We stayed here for a night when touring Japan as a quiet break between the cities of Hiroshima and Osaka. We had a Park suite (probably because there was 3 of us) and it was the nicest room we stayed in on our whole trip around Japan. The decor was lovely and modern, beds were very comfy and view was incredible. Breakfast was fantastic - I had french toast but there was the whole offering of Japanese and western buffet options. Staff were super friendly and helpful (even for Japan where everyone is very helpful anyway!). Touring the museum after hours (a guest privilege) was a lovely bonus. Highly recommend

Try to stay more than a night, there is so much architecture and art to see on the island. Definitely more than a 2 star hotel, as stated by Google. Beautiful views, comfortable rooms, great service and food. Unique combination of several hotels, museums and restaurants all designed by Tadao Ando. Imagine high dining in the Benesse museum whith private access.

An art lover’s dream destination. I wish we had spent more time here just to pick up the vibe. An excellent museum of contemporary art of very high quality. The architecture and art are completely in harmony.

You're staying in the midst of the beauty of Naoshima which is the philosophy of the Benesse project. Book way in advance, and try to stay more than one night - because availability is always low!
If you cannot book a restaurant for dinner, fear not - they offer bento boxes from the Museum's Japanese restaurant which is just as good, and you get to dine in your own room (taking in the view from your own balcony is recommended!)
One additional perk is that the Benesse Museum and the other Benesse sites are open until 11pm for hotel guests, and if you can make the trip after hours, you pretty much get the museum to yourself.

Google labels this a 2-star hotel, which I suppose could technically be true based on somewhat spartan rooms and minimal on site amenities, but is also maybe the most hilarious undersell of any hotel I've ever stayed at (which include plenty of Relais and Chateaux and similar the world over). Benesse is a work of art and is pure, unrivaled beauty at every turn.

Also, just to be clear, it isn't as if you have to live like a monk here. I stayed at the Park (which I recommend based on amenities and location) and found the French restaurant to be nearly of Michelin star caliber. Thus I would book with included meals. They also offer massage treatments and the staff is superb.

A few general notes that might be of use. Most of the Art locations on Naoshima are closed on Monday, although hotel guests have access to the Benesse sites which is a nice perk. Teshima Island is however open Monday and worth a visit (closed Tuesdays).

Most importantly, make a reservation for the Chichu and Teshima Art Museums well in advance. Whether you know it yet or not, they are why you are here. For the latter I would reserve in the morning based on the ferry schedules.

I stayed two nights and they were the most magical of my trip to Japan. If you need a tall feather bed, a pool, and a gym, maybe this experience isn't for you. For everyone else, know that Naoshima is magic and Benesse is the way to do it.

An amazing hotel, where consideration for the customer's well being was felt at every point of the stay. Things like:

Emailing me in advance to see if I wanted them to push beds together (so 1 year old doesn't fall off).

Helping schedule dinner reservations, which needed to be cancelled at the last minute due to sleeping kids.

Receiving umbrellas as you enter and exit Benesse museums.

Clear communication and a lovely gallery.

The Benesse house exclusive shuttle buses made the trip stress free and let us explore Naoshima easily.

The best place to stay in Naoshima. I would go as far as planning my trip based on benesse hotel’s availability. Staying at the hotel offers so much convenience from shuttle buses, to off-hours access to the museum and convenient food arrangement. You can also enjoy sunrise/sunset at the iconic Yayoi pumpkin statue, without worrying about the ferry schedule.

The rooms are also spacious and clean, with great view of the landscape and beach.

Food is ok. I feel the Japanese restaurant (Museum restaurant) serve much better food vs the French one.

If you love the arts and simple, yet beautifully designed accommodation, this is the place to be. Spend at least two nights here to fully experience all that Naoshima has to offer, which is a LOT. Benesse House is the ideal base for doing so, as you also have the opportunity to visit the museum at night as a hotel guest.

One of the most relaxing hotel I have ever stayed. It is not about how luxury the hotel is, it is about how the environment can make you slow down and truly enjoy the atmosphere and immerse in art...

The staff are simply sweet. They remembered what questions you have ask and would follow up to see if it has been solved. They truly care about you, you won’t feel too much business here.

Loved our stay here. Architecture is as good as you get. The restaurant is fantastic. We had a degustation and it was an amazing French inspired Japanese menu. They run a shuttle bus to meet the ferry, which is very convenient.

Naoshima Island is definitely one of the most impressive place I've ever been. The room has beautiful view but the interior space is just so so. Restaurant serves great breakfast but truly overpriced. Overall, have a good time here.

This is a great place to stay. You are in the middle of it all and the proprietary bus service between the different locations on the island is so convenient. Also if you stay here you get to enter the Benesse House museum for free. Restaurant serves a great breakfast.

Wow! Gorgeous hotel and divine location in Naoshima. Otherworldly experience in Naoshima and Teshima. Impossible to describe it. Could have stayed there a month and would have had a smile on my face every day. If there was more of this in the world, and much less anger towards our brothers and sisters on planet earth, we would all be in a better place. Awed and humbled by it, grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to go there.

The hotel itself is a piece of artwork by Tadao Ando. Not the cheapest place to stay but the beauty of the location and facility is really worth it. They provide a shuttle bus that you can use freely to visit the different sites on the island.

Where else will you find a hotel-museum combination? Outdoor sculpture is also exciting. Dinner in the restaurant was especially good.

Beautiful building and setting and service staff that is kind and very helpful. Not an amazing luxury hotel in terms of room amenities but the setting is well worth it.
