Ritsurin Garden

Beautiful and tranquil Japanese garden. Should take about 1.5 to 2 hrs to walk the whole park. Road is flat and easy to walk. There are few different tea houses in different parts of the park for you to take a break.

Was too early for cherry blossoms at the time of visiting, but was able to see plum blossom which was magnificent.

Worth paying a small ticket price to enter the park.

It is probably the most beautiful garden I've visited in a one-month trip to Japan. The whole place is quite big so allow at least a couple of hours to fully appreciate it. There are two different routes to follow but the map is very well detailed. Takamatsu is not on the common tourist itinerary, so the garden was not crowded at all.

Opens every day. Entrance fee is 410yen/adult. There are over 1,400 pine trees in the garden. Some of the pine trees are over 300 years old. The garden faces Mt. shiun -zan. The garden is divided into South and North garden. The South garden is a typical Japanese garden whereas the North garden is a Western garden. Be prepared to walk a lot. You can rest your tired legs by having tea at the tea house. Or you can have a boat ride.

Beautiful spacious garden with a variety of plants and wildlife. I saw a kingfisher swoop down over the lake! My partner missed it! 😅(🤣)

I went in with the intention of walking for about an hour.
The scenery was so beautiful that I walked slowly for two hours.
Even if you go on a side road, not the main road, you can face pretty scenes.
It is good because there are many places to rest.
I think this place will be a magnificent view even when it rains.

It is not one of the Great Three Japanese gardens, but it should be. Wonderful garden impeccably maintained. Not as easily accessible as the other gardens but perhaps for it, since it is not as crowded.

Stunning garden that's most certainly worth your time if you happen to be in Takamatsu. Very reasonable entry fee too.

A nice place to visit, east outdoor parking is spacious and kind staff would guide you to available lot (100 yen for every 25 mins). Admission fee is required and there are various pine trees and houses for rest and old times stories. Autumn and Spring should be best seasons though winter would be wonderful also. Sun protection is suggested if go at summer times.

Gorgeous park on the south side of Takamatsu. Have a leisurely stroll around the beautiful grounds, taking in the calmness and serenity. Peaceful ponds and a light waterfall, perfectly manicured trees and attentively maintained bridges and pathways. Great place to relax and spend an afternoon.

It is easy to see why people give this garden such high praises. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed when we visited this place of tranquility and sophistication. A must see in the area and highly recommended.

One of the most beautiful gardens we have been in Japan. Worth the side trip if you are planning to also visit Hiroshima.

Our allotted time was only 2hrs and we hade to rush to the exit just to get to our train.

Plan more than 2hrs and enjoy the relaxing view and fresh air!

On March 30, 2023, my wife and I visited the garden for the first time. When compared with other Japanese gardens, this one stood out as it could be interactive. We wanted to try the boat cruise but couldn’t afford to wait for hours for the available one. We ate udon at the most scenic spot instead.

A must to visit when in Takamatsu, 400year old garden with beautiful views, Koi carp and blossoms

Fantastic and beautiful. Very relaxing garden to walk around or just sit and meditate. There are several places to buy mementoes or some food. There are a lot of smaller paths to take and explore parts of the garden or you can feed the koi. To see it all takes at least half a day.

Amazingly beautiful park. Highly recommend taking the 30min boat ride.

A must visit place! We travel for 1hr to be in this place and its all worth it! The scenery of Ritsurin Garden are so amazing. You can bring food and stay for wholeday to embrace the wonders of nature. But there are areas where you can buy food.

Parking space is wide

This garden was the signature place of the city. An entrance fee was required, but it was worth going. Carpark was available, and the management was good. The place was well maintained. Trees, lawn, lake, bridge, walkway, gazebo, flowers...etc., were organized in the right place. The toilets were found in every corner and were clean.

The park is very beautiful. A friendly volunteer guide led me through the park, told me about its historical development, and pointed out the many beautiful details and compositions of the facility. Thank you very much!
