Watanabe Curry

A tiny hidden spot with 15 available seating. It was a a special experience with just 3 staff manning the restaurant. The meat was very tender and not dry at all! We went there at 11:40 am and we did not wait that long. We were seated after 20-30 minutes. They serve really lightly flavoured meat and sauce, you would want to pour the extra sauce they’ll give you because it has extra beef in it. This is not your ordinary sweet and tangy curry. The addition of vegetables made it more balanced. Make sure to eat a portion of everything in one bite to appreciate the artistry of this meal. I will come back to Watanabe Curry and you should tell your friends about this place! It is not hard to find and close to a train station.

legitimately the BEST curry we’ve ever had. We popped in here close to closing hours but they were so accommodating and kind, and just ordered their recommended dish. The curry is just spectacular (like, I don’t even like cilantro but I ate EVERYTHING on that platter) and the katsu is crispy and juicy and tender. They know what they are doing for sure — highly recommend!

Absolutely epic curry! The pork premium cutlet was INCREDIBLE.
I’ve been all over the world and never tasted it cooked so good.
Wish we had time to go back and try the lamb and beef because they looked so tasty.
We had pickles and added pickled egg too! So great.

Arrived at 8pm an hour before they closed. Had the place to ourselves. The Pork Cutlet Curry was amazing and the curry inspired beer went down a treat. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Priced very reasonable too. Would definitely return for more.

It should be illegal to have something so good for so cheap. The curry was absolutely delicious but the star was that pork cutlet. Amazing breading and a perfect cook which pairs so nicely with the curry. Amazing value play right here.

A cozy curry shop on the third floor. The man and woman working the shop were kind and patient with the foreign customers. Im sure they have gotten more since they got some recognition.

The curry has a good flavor to it and the jump to even level 2 spice brought it up to the equivalent of hot jalapenos. Both the beef and tonkatsu were juicy and delicious. It has been one of my better meals in Osaka.

Bar like restaurant. I visited around 7-8. No waiting time, chilling music&atmosphere, and absolutely perfect curry. I tried beef curry, but keema looked nice as well. You can choose how spicy your curry is, and level 3 is quite hard.. But it worth trying.

Amazing food. First discovered the place in 2019 randomly and waited 4 years to come back to Osaka and return here. Pork cutlet is to die for with an incredible soupy curry and flavourful rice. It is of little surprise this place has now got a Michelin Star.

Went just before closing today. The Premium pork katsu is completely worth it. Tried the original last time but had to try the premium this time. Its incredible! The best カレ, the best japan curry style example. The premium is completely worth it so don't cheap out if you are just visiting.

Maybe by Japanese standards it’s not deserving of five stars but it was definitely one of the best curries I’ve had in Japan. I’ve been to a couple that are rated higher than this place in tabelog but this is still my favorite. Crazy line despite being decent sized restaurant though if you don’t go early. Definitely get their deluxe menu and maybe skip out on the spicy level during the summer!

Had beef and pork. Meat was soft and curry flavorful. Jealous of the workers in surrounding area as they could eat this for lunch daily.

Good curry shop with lovely colors and flavors. Friendly shop staff, but get there early or you’ll have to wait in line.

Savory meats, chicken curry was very good, went perfect with rice. Sauce was full of flavor.
The original curry was so good too the ground meat had so much flavor.
We took it to go after a long day of walking around and it was a perfect meal.

Definitely going back here for curry. I was never a big fan of curry but I loved, loved this. I got their Original Watanabe Curry and it didn't disappoint. The price was reasonable. Fair warning though. If you're looking for ones with the katsu, this isn't but this was still definitely worth the wait.

I've been gorging on curry while in Japan (VERY hard to find in restaurants where I live in the U.S.) and Watanabe Curry was tonight's winner. The special tonkatsu curry + Curry Lover's Ale were delicious. So reasonably priced with regard to quality and portion, too! If you're in Osaka, you should definitely stop in.
