JMSDF Sasebo Museum Sail Tower

If you're into Japanese modern history, war history and naval history in general, definitely give this museum a go. I went today, 18th November 2023, it wasn't too busy. At the entrance the staff will give you a plastic numbered token, along with a piece of paper outline, what's allowed and not allowed to be done inside. I got the list of rules in Japanese, even though I'm not Japanese (I know enough to converse).

The staff will definitely recommend you to take the elevator up to the 7th floor and walk your way down. The 7th floor gives you a view of the port, with a navy ship in the distance. One of the two places you can take a photo. The other floor is the 1st or 2nd floor. Spent a couple of hours here, it was rather very informative. They also have a LOT of model warships, IJN Kongo, IJN Mikasa, IJN Yamato, IJN Musashi, IJN Tsuzutsuki etc.

Well worth the stop! Our JMSDF hosts are gracious and welcoming.

It's free and fantastic few museum would highly recommend it if you are in the area. Really interesting ranging from the imperial days right up to current day maritime force. To fully enjoy the museum you'll need a couple of hours at least.

A great look into Japanese Naval History. Adequate English signage that makes it both educational and enjoyable.

佐世保中心部にある海軍の施設。
歴史で習った戦争のことから自衛隊の誕生までが年代別にとても詳しく知れて良かった。
ゆっくり見てると半日かかりそう。
景色もいいしこんな充実してて無料だし言うことがない。

二度目の来館です。
最上階からの眺めも良いですね。
動画がとても興味深かったです。
売店もいろんなグッズを売ってて楽しい。

以前来た時は…10年程前なんですが、以前より気軽に来る場所に変わってきてるのかな？客層に女性も多かったので。
家族で来ても楽しめそうですね。
また来ます。

最初はエレベーターで最上階より降りて行く見学コース❗最上階はホールで自衛隊の活動や歴史の放映☺階下は貴重な資料が色々展示されており感動するしました☺

おじいが先の大戦で、帝国海軍の羽黒に乗船していた。嫁の義父が佐世保の海上自衛官だったので、海軍と聞くとついつい出かけてしまいます。佐世保何回も訪問してるのに初めてこの場所訪問しました。7階建てで各階工夫を凝らした展示で入場料無料素晴らしい施設で感動しました。
親子連れが多く、いい歴史教育になりますね～某国のように曲がった歴史認識を植え付けないで伸びて行って欲しいです。
良い経験しました。

佐世保海上自衛隊史料館
長崎県佐世保市
JR九州/松浦鉄道佐世保駅より、西肥バス（させぼバスも含む）「佐世保市総合医療センター入口」下車、徒歩2分
海上自衛隊及び旧海軍の史料館。1968年の海自防衛資料館が前身。7階建ての建物で、最上階から時代別に展示を見学する方式。佐世保鎮守府の時代から現代の海上自衛隊まで歴史を知る体験学習が出来ます。
くらまの操船シミュレーターなどもあり、見るだけでではなく触れて楽しむ設備も充実。
特に旧海軍機に関しては航空機年表によって採用年別に列挙され、とても見やすくなっています。

Sasebo Maritime Self-Defense Force Museum

From Sasebo Station, take the Saihi Bus (including Sasebo Bus) and get off at "Sasebo City General Medical Center Iriguchi", then walk for 2 minutes.
Historical museum of the Maritime Self-Defense Force and the former Imperial Navy. Its predecessor was the Maritime Self-Defense Museum in 1968. It is a 7-story building, and exhibits can be viewed by era from the 7th floor.
The basic exhibits are the Maritime Self-Defense Force and the former Navy, so ships and other items are the main exhibits, but there are also quite a few exhibits related to aircraft. In particular, old imperial naval aircraft are listed by year of adoption in the aircraft chronology, making them very easy to see.

入場無料でたくさんの資料を見学できます。7階から4階までは海軍の資料。軍服や生活用品など 3階から1階は海上自衛隊の資料が展示されています。
1回には売店もあり、海上自衛隊グッズを販売しています。駐車場も無料です。

開国から海軍の成り立ち、各種戦争、自衛隊の設立から活躍と網羅的に展示されています。
2時間から3時間ほとで全ての展示を見ることができると思います。
急いで回っても1時間はかかりそうなボリュームたっぷりの史料館です。

2023年6月現在は予約なし、無料で入館することができました。

当時の軍服や道具も多く展示されており、なかなか見られないものも多く、いい体験ができました。

非常值得到訪！參觀完全免費，只要在門口登記，領取號碼牌即可入館，接待的先生相當親切
館內的說明文字僅有日英兩種語言，對海軍的歷史解說詳盡，展品也非常豐富，包含許多歷史文物及艦船模型，一路看下來令人相當震撼
另外，頂樓可以眺望佐世保軍港，能看到軍艦停泊在港內的景象，此外還有視聽室，我去的時候正在播潛艦的影片，可惜沒有時間坐下來慢慢觀賞
最後總共待了兩個小時，還覺得待的時間有點不夠，相當推薦對日本海軍歷史有興趣的人來這裡看看

海軍創設から海上自衛隊の現在まで、非常に充実した資料が展示されています。
これだけの価値のある展示があるのに、無料で入場できるのは素晴らしいとしか言いようがありません。

佐世保市内で平日開いている数少ないミリタリー関係の場所だと思います。
コロナ禍の間は事前予約が必要だったようですが、2023年6月現在事前予約なし、無料で入ることができました。
展示物は幕末期から旧日本海軍の成り立ち、日清日露戦争や太平洋戦争についてと、戦後の自衛隊発足までの過程、現在の自衛隊の取り組みなど、時代の背景を抑えつつ学ぶことが出来て非常に有意義に過ごすことができました。
展示物には実際に使用されていた制服などがあり、貴重なものが見れました。
個人的に一番のおすすめは操船シミュレーターです。
