wonderful staff. clean facilities, AMAZING relaxing massage. delicious food. high ceilings, beautiful hot springs of different types separated for men and women with lockers, plus an all day and night both sexes outdoors spa with rocks and plants around. Sauna with views of snow-covered plants outside. mountain views from hot springs bath covered in natural stone tile. a peaceful oasis!

My stay at Shoho was fantastic and incredibly relaxing.

The room itself was spacious, and the view of the Japan Alps was stunning.

The hotel staff were very helpful and could communicate well in English, making the stay even more comfortable. I highly recommend reserving a dinner at the hotel, it was exceptional.

Shoho provides rooms with private bathrooms which was a great and convenient.

Breakfast spread was amazing! Dinner was delicious. The young 高山-san who was our server for dinner was so lovely and warm. Thank you! Onsen baths were large and nice and the semi-outdoor one had a view too. Fun trying the beauty products at the onsen areas. Staff were all helpful to foreigners. Thank you.

This onsen resort hotel has a large variety of rooms ranging from basic to luxurious to the suit all budgets. We chose a large room with private bath which worked well for our family of 4. The service is exceptional, especially if you select one of the better rooms. The staff bend over backwards to make yoir dtay comfortable. The dining is also upgraded if you have one of these rooms. Dinner and breakfast are incredible, with the former upgraded if you have one of the nice rooms. The location is on the outskirts of Matsumoto but they offer a shuttle bus to the station in the morning and evening.
Love the public onsen too. There is a segregated onsen with outdoor bathing. There is also a third onsen overlooking the city which is male in the AM and female in the PM.
Loved this resort and would be perfect apres snow stay before heading home.

This is the nicest hotel I've been to in all of Japan star hotel, truly blew my mind how exquisite the stay is. Obviously the kaiseki is delicious, the onsen is relaxing, but the service is truly outstanding. You are treated like royalty from the second you walk in. Did I mention the view over Matsumoto and the neighboring mountains and peaks? Because it's so beyond beautiful to watch from your room as you sip some tea. We stayed in a tatami mat room, which is the way I roll (so nice and comfy). The onsen amenities are top notch. Oh and there's a foot batch outside where you can watch the sunset with your loved ones, or spend some time on the deck overlooking the valley. So many things to do...highly recommended place to stay!

Definitely the highlight of my trip to Japan. We were greeted at the entrance and all the paper work is already done before hand. Spacious Japanese styled room with glorious views of the mountains. Breakfast is good with a wide selection. Onsen is clean and well maintained. Unfortunately we only had time for 1 night Highly recommend. Free shuttle is available for those not driving.

Excellent service, meal, room and hot spring. The hotel is very clean and keep your privacy. That is good place for relax with family and your couple. Don't miss the breakfast that is soooo great and delicious. There are variety of food. Besides, there is shuttle bus from station to hotel.

Amazing 5* resort Ryokan experience. We are a family of 5 with young adult children. Everyone enjoyed the onsen and set menu for dinner and breakfast. Will definitely be back again. Worth the price to experience it all.

Super beautiful view and super nice onsen

Rooms are big. Food is good. I would have spent more tourist money had there a larger range of food snacks on sale in the shop.
I'd have slept better if the rooms were a bit cooler.

This was the best place we stayed at in Japan. Very nice onsens, rooms are large, some with private onsen bath. Great views of Matsumoto. Friendly staff and clean accommodations. Upscale hotel. It is on the out skirt of Matsumoto deeper into the valley and up against the mountains. They have a shuttle to and from Matsumoto Station. Would definitely recommend this place. Food was excellent. They also have a casual small bar restaurant, like an Izakaya, lots of sake and food was great.

Very new and clean facilities, food is so great, view is nice, and the onsen is huge. It's far from the station, but the shuttle bus is good enough if you are just staying one night.
