An absolute banger of a hike.

An adventurous hike with a breathtaking view. I would say this is a moderate hike but there is a plain rock surface which is about a 75 degree gradient. Negotiating this would be a bit difficult. You need good shoes which will support your toes and ankle.

Carry plenty of water coz you will need it, trust me. There are a few houses at the start of the trek from which you can fill your bottles. But there won’t be another place until you come down.

The mountain top is absolutely pretty. There is a view point as well, which has a beautiful view. There’s more than one trail to the top, and it’s really difficult to get lost on the way back coz all trails lead to the same place.

Enjoy the view and make sure you bring everything you take! 👏

One of the most difficult hike. Probably the most dangerous. EVEN dangerous when rain which happened to us. Guide is must. Villa Vajrapani has a good guide. Highly recomended. 👍🏼🙏🙏

This is located on the Hanthana mountain range which is located at kandy. this is about 3-4 hour hike. little bit hard hike. There are no permanent path to get access. we can go from the hulan kapolla.

Please try to hike this mountain on summer without choosing it on rainy days. If you are willing to go the hike on rainy days you have to prepare for the rain and also for the leeches.

Be really careful when you walk on the backborn. This is the best and the adventure of hanthana mountain range. very careful with the deadends. You must keep a good balance when you go along the narrow gap.

Please take water with you there are no any water sorce in the hike. This is a beautifu hike so please bring the things that you taking.

One of the most adventurous hike to be have. It is located in the Kandy Hanthana road. About 10km from the Kandy City. There is no permanent way to enter in to the site. But there are some foot prints. Best way is to going through the temple road. With passing the temple, there is a foot path to start the climb. The path is through a small tea state. After walking about 1.5km, you will be face with some adventures places. Be safety. The path is with both narrow and wide. In the top of the peak, it is such an amazing views to be experienced. It is better to use genuine hiking equipments. A rope is such an important item while you climbing with a gang. Take water and essential foods. There aren't any shop to buy anything. Please don't let your garbage there. Bring back all things you take there. It is a must to save these places... #Katusu Konda

It is located on the Kandy Hanthana road. About a 3-hour hike. There is no permanent way to enter the site. here is a Tamil village bottom of the mountain. Try to hike during dry days instead of rainy days due the rock gets slippery and makes the hike dangerous. It can be a terrifying experience.

Incredible view point... i love it so much. Little bit risky. But it is worth to visit here. Get as much water and food as you can. It's not advisable to go during the rainy season. In the middle of the jungle, through the thickets, you have to reach Katusukonda. There are signs on the rocks, trees, and on the road. It is better to carry a knife. It is difficult to walk long distances, difficult to climb, and high altitudes make it a little difficult for those who fat and fear. Do not try to ask the toad from villagers, Lots of people show the wrong way. Leave your vehicle in a safe place. Its somewhat scary and funny to walk along the nice edges. You can have amazing pictures. Its necessary to say that please leave only footprints. As travelers we must save these places. I saw lots of plastic bottles and polythene covers.
There are two ways to the mountain. One is from mahakanda and the other one is from
Udakanda area. ( pass the temple and take the right path towards hanthana. You will see a hut. Take the left road and walk until you meet a giant tank and few houses. Steps beside the tank will carry you to the destination )

Katusu Konda is a peak found in the Hanthana Mountain Range in Kandy. It is named so due to its shape resembling the back of a lizard (Katussa).
The Hanthana mountain range is a spectacular place to experience nature's magnificence.

Katusu Konda is a peak found in the Hanthana Mountain Range in Kandy. It is named such due to its shape resembling the back of a lizard (Katussa). The path leading up to Katudu Konda is not very difficult to trek. However, it gets very windy at the top of the peak and the summit is also very narrow. The hike is an adventurous experience and looking down from the summit of Katusu Konda is a dangerously steep slope. Hikers can experience amazing views from the top of Katusu Konda which includes the Knuckles Mountain Range, University of Peradeniya, Kandy City, Monaragala, Alagalla and Hunnasgiriya.

Maybe the toughest climb but it was worth every single bit.
There are two ways to arrive here, I took the entry from Mahakanda. You can drive up from there to a kovil where you can park the car.
From there on, to the Uplands Estate houses is about 500m.

There on will be the climb. It's technically a straight climb up. There might a small footpath opened up from the trees for you to go, if you can't find one, you can make one as long as you reach the top.
At one point however you will have to trek a rock that is at a 60 degree angle and then eventually make your way to Uragala.

Katusu Konda is adjoining Uragala.
To get there, at the end of Uragala there is a path underneath the rocks.

The rock is a steep climb and the scenic photo opportunity is on top of the rock.
Do not look left or miss your feet, cause it's a precipice on the bottom.

Untouched nature and it is one experience you should not miss.

Do's
Carry at least 5 litres of water per person. It can get hot. There are no sources of water or food on the way.
Wear shoes (ones with good grip), long sleeves and pants since there are thorns and bushes that you need to go through

Carry food to the top. Buy the supplies from the shop adjoing the kovil, else you won't find anything on top

Don'ts
Don't climb the rock it it is raining. It is going to be slippery
Bring back what you take up. Don't leave anything
Avoid lighting flames since it can cause fires.

We took the galaha road from Kandy and reach "sri sumithraramaya, kithulmulla" from there you can start the hike. Maximum one hour to the top.

Be careful and enjoy the nature

As I can see in the photos, people are confusing the two places, Katusu Konda and Uragala top. lot of these photos are from Uragala mountain top. Despite the fact that they are two nearby places, they are completely different places.
Katusu Konda is the place with a narrow long top that goes about few hundreds of meters. I think this is the only place in Sri Lanka that has this specialty and gives such thrilling experience. Be very careful if you wish to walk in this narrow path because one small mistake could cause your life, but it totally worth experience :-)

One of the most adventurous hike in Sri lanka. It's located in Hanthana Mountain range. There are two different way to enter the mountain. The most common & little easier way to climb via a Sarasavigama Upland Estate Road. You can google "hotel Vajirapani" and start hike from there. We climb it from Hanthana side, it's harder than the other way. there is no permanent way to start the hike and there is a foot path to start climb. Hike is around 4-6km long and it will take 2-4 hours depend your speed. Be careful, You may get lost the road. Therefore Don't forget to mark your road & remember it. On rainy days you have to climb it very carefully because rocks are very slippery. Carry enough water and foods. In the top of the peak , it's such a amazing views to be experienced. Leave only footprint & save to natural beauty of Katusu Konda.

How to reach: Colombo> Kandy> Sarasavigama> Katusukonda

Mode of Transport: There is a bus to Sarasavigama from Kandy. Also car, bikes can go up to the mentioned village there are days the road is damaged too in fact off road vehicle is easy. Parking is limited.

Water source: can be found on the same road but usually on rainy days but not in the hiking trail.

About it: Try to hike during dry days instead rainy days due the rock gets slippery and makes the hike dangerous. start early as possible as there are no water sources carry enough water for sunny weather condition that will make you dehydrated and mostly you will enjoy the hike with less risk, having enough food and water with your friends fun stories. to Ascend it takes roughly 4-5 hours descend in 2.5 hours.

Adventure experiences 😵
Katusu Konda also knows as Knife-edge, is an unforgettable adventure for experience the excellence of the environment at the Hanthana mountain range. It gets its name because it is a high peak with a narrow tip similar to a lizard's backbone. You are gazing down from here, a dangerously steep slope.
The easiest route is to run towards Peradeniya. You have to move about 7km from Peradeniya to lead the Sarasawigama. Following that, you can take a bus till you arrive at the Sarasawigama. If you want to go past that, you have to go on a tuk-tuk or hike. It's another 4km from Sarasavigama to Upland. About 2km along the difficult road in front of the little temple and shop in Upland, you will see a few tiny houses. The footpath to the mountain is discovered only after you have gone through those little houses.

Katusu konda is located at the end of the hanthana mountain range. This rock is called katusu konda (lizard back) because there is a steep fall on both sides. You can come here from either hiking the whole hanthana range or from sarasavigama village.
Be careful in rainy and windy days. Because the rock is very slippery and it’s hard to walk on the rock under heavy winds.
You can have a nice 360 degree view when you come to the top. Can see the whole hanthana mountain range when on the top.
Do not pollute the area. Take only photographs, leave only footprints. 👣👣🍃

Thank you.
