An ancient religious place for buddhists. But even for catholics, it feels so calm. There is a forest which suits for monks' meditation. You also can enter there only if it is a poyaday. ❤ But anyday, you can visit this temple.

This is a ancient cave temple situated in Gampaha district about 2km from Yakkala Kirindiwela main road. You can climb on to the rock via a little bit difficult path. On the top of the rock you can see very large area. You can also see te colombo buildings and nelum kuluna. Better to climb before the dark comes if not you can't find the road.

Ancient cave temple situated in Gampaha District is closed to yakkala Town. It is from 3.5km drive from Colombo - Kandy main road. This is one of the temple from the complex built by King Walagamba from Anuradhapura period. View from the top sees Maligathenna temple from the east and Colombo city from the west. It is sad to witness the deforestation at this mountain range

Loads of caves surrounded by the forest. The Mountain view is breathtaking even with the Pineapple and banana plantation. While there are 2 paths to climb the top of the mountain, the path through Cave inscriptions is less steep and less slippery even during rainy season. The wooden bridge by the lake has a good scenery as well. Inside the temple there were paintings of Portuguese soldiers. Never seen that before.

This is one of the largest temple which was made by a King who is King Valagammba, at the time period of 89 - 77 BC. And it’s believed that there are Caves with huge rock formation above the temple.
The King Valagammba used the complicated caves to escape from the time where there was a Indian Invasion.

This temple exemplifies both vernacular architecture involving caves and popular architectural styles during the colonial period. It is easily accessible by a vehicle and not far away from Colombo.
