A day hiking trip. Park the car, hike around 3 to 4 hours, and arrive at the peak at 4440m. Without gear or any preparation. The views are amazing. Walk thru the various terrains. Tough hike but very doable. Safe and you will meet many travelers. There are camping areas as well. A dormant volcano. But worth a day visit.

This is a tough hike at altitude, so know what you're getting into. Public transport will get you on the mountain too late to summit, unless you are in really good shape and go fast. Take a taxi or ride-share. The road 12kms out is closed until 7am, so don't arrive before then.
There are many stray dogs that have organized themselves into packs, so be careful. They are not normally aggressive, but can become so in the presence of food or in the case they are attacked.

3 hours drive away from cdmx. With beautiful hike in the forest all the way to the peak at 4400m above sea level. The hike is about 8 km long and 1200m climb with avg walk time of 6 hours up and 4 hours back… you can camp over night and it’s safe there with no coast of entry .. you can park by the road or pay 50 m$ (2.5 US$)
There some food places for tacos and coffee

It was a great experience climbing this mountain. I made it to the top! We stayed the night before at the IMSS Bungalows and started the climb in the morning. It took us about 5 hours up and 3 down but it was well worth it.

Excellent place to hike and acclimatize for higher summits. The views are stunning and the forest is very quiet. A perfect place to spend some time in nature.

Beautiful park. If the mexicans would only care a bit more about their nature. In many places people would cut trees, paint on rocks, through away their bottles, tissues etc.

Nice hike, pretty steep at sections and the last km or so is scrambling up rocks but it's a rewarding hike with some amazing views. Local dogs will join you on the hike as well sometimes if you want a free tour guide (helps if you feed them a bit too!)

Well defined trail that leads to the summit. informal restaurants at the trail head. Were this peak in the lower 48 usa it would be just below mt Whitney in terms of height. Due to the altitude it was a tough hike, but technically easy. Great views and some birds to see.

The view is awsome. We ejoyed too much the trail. You can get a big walk among the forest, then grassland and finally and easy climb in the rocks to get to the peak.
You don't need special equipment, just good mountain-boots and clothes for cold and wind. The climb takes arround 3 hours depending on your physical shape.

This hike and national park are true gems. We took an Uber from Puebla to the trailhead via the Huamantla Road from San Isidro Buensuceso. That road is in excellent condition. The owner of the little restaurant and store beside the resort was VERY helpful and friendly. The hike to the peak took me 3.5 hours. It's not technical but it is steep in a few places and the altitude forced me to take many short breaks. To return to Puebla we took the colectivo to Apizaco at 5pm sharp, and then caught a bus from there to the CAPU. Amazing experience, I would highly recommend to anyone who loves being in nature and to those who want the challenge of hiking a high elevation summit.

Beautiful national park in Tlaxcala. Not many people from Mexico City know about it hence you only see locals in the area. Surprisingly there are a lot of foreigners that go and climb that volcano. The summit takes about 3 hours (4-6 hours if not experienced) but the view from the top will blow your mind! You get to see neighboring volcanoes such as Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. Great experience!

Amazing place, incredible views, fresh air, it’s difficult in some areas but not impossible at all, if you wanna climb it, you should arrive very early in the morning to reach the peak while you still have good weather conditions

We did the hike today and it was beautiful. A few things to share

- Getting to the trailhead from Puebla on public transport (if you don't want to Uber).
First you need to get a bus from Puebla to Apizaco then collectivo from Apizaco to Malintzi resort where the trail starts. The collectivo only leaves at 8:20am and gets you to the trail head at 9:00am (40 mxn).
We took an ATAH Ordinaro bus (66 mxn) from Puebla CAPU station to Apizaco and they said it takes 1.25 hrs (The Ejecutivo is only 1 hr but only leaves at 6:00 and 7:30am, not very helpful for connecting to the collectivo, costs 116 mxn). We took the 6:48 and got in at 8:05am to Apizaco and terminated only a block and half away from the collectivo point so we were in the collectivo with plenty of time. The collectivo leaves from the trail head at 5pm.

- Definitely agree with others, going up the right side ridge after the tree line finishes and going the steep sandy route on the way back down

- We didn't take a guide and were happy with the choice. There are plenty of people on the trail (did it on a Thu) and it's a pretty straightforward route (though still very tough, especially with the altitude). For the final bit after the ridge, the route is less clear but you just need to keep heading for the false summits until you see the real one.

This is a beautiful hike...BUT WARNING! This is a very very hard hike. If you’re visiting from an elevation of less than 2000ft & consider yourself very active, you can do this hike, but, you will absolutely get acute mountain sickness. I had the worst headache of my life after this 6 hour trek.

Well marked trail. Start early. I hike a good bit and still this hike was challenging due to elevation. Some of the trail is very loose rock and soil and I fell during descent. Never worn a helmet before, but I learned why some of the climbers on this peak were wearing them. Also wish I had my poles, but they were back in the USA. But a very, very nice day and rewarding summit.
