We spent 6 days here in May 2024 and loved everything about it. The hostel is well appointed with a shared kitchen, gym space, pool, and a lovely view of EPC. Mario and the rest of the team were incredibly kind and welcoming to us. Go for the climbing, stay for the people (and the food in Hidalgo).

The walk to the crag was about 30 mins for us, which involved a few scary encounters with local dogs chasing, barking and growling at us. Sadly this was a negative to the trip.

Loved this place!

Awesome experience!

Beautiful grounds & views, a lovely pool, hot tub and fire pit, excellent outdoor seating options, a spacious restaurant & bar, small shop, huge community kitchen and the best thing about this place is the sincerely warm customer service from the family and staff.

Our room is simple but sufficient - extra firm queen bed, multiple electrical outlets, heat, hot water, dresser, small desk & decent private bathroom. 15-20 min walk to the crag.

I'd give 6 stars if possible. It was dusk on a Saturday, my day trip needed to become an overnight, and they made waves to provide me a place when everywhere else was turning away. The staff was beyond helpful, the place was immaculate, with full services including laundry, currency exchange, a good restaurant and bar, nestled just outside potrero, cannot rate this place highly enough!

Perfect spot for a Potrero Chico rock climbing trip. The hostel is WALKING DISTANCE from many epic climbs, so you don’t need a car. My friend and I camped in tents on the large lawn. The kitchen, bathrooms, and pool are great for budget climbers. The view of the mountains from the pool is absolutely priceless. The place is owned by a sweet couple who personally took care of my friend when he hurt his ankle. 5-star service all around!

We stayed here two weeks for our rock climbing trip and had the best time. The room was Very comfortable. I loved having the option to eat at their restaurant or cook my own food. The lady working at the restaurant, Fini, was probably my favorite person here, she’s just so nice. The food was cheap and good. The owners were super friendly and really cared about making sure you were happy.

We had a wonderful time at Rancho El Sendero. We stayed in a king bed room, it was clean, the AC cold, the water hot! But what made the stay were the people. The staff and owners are incredibly kind and accommodating. They were patient with our poor Spanish and we really enjoyed getting to know them and spending time there. The place itself is relaxing and beautiful, and a perfect location to be able to walk both to town and climbing. We can't wait to come back!

What a perfect place to stay while climbing in Potrero Chico! The communal kitchen is the real gem - extremely we set up and spacious. The people who run this place are very accommodating and nice! Bathrooms are always kept clean, and there is a large grassy lawn to pitch your tent (if you don’t book the rooms). There are usually a few slacklines set up, and the people who stay here are really friendly. Definitely seems to be the quieter option in terms of accommodations; the other campsites seem to cater for shorter stays and more rowdy people. The long-termers seem to gravitate to here, and I can see why. Clean, quiet and friendly. Really can’t go wrong!

My experience at Rancho El Sendero has been positively spectacular! The camping is around $5 (US) per night (it's 100 pesos per night; if you stay for a total of 10 or more nights, the camping is 90 pesos per night). The hostel, which is quite nice, is 250 pesos per night.
The community kitchen is very well stocked with cooking implements; the stoves are gas fired (there's also a flat-top grill that's also gas fired). There is an adjacent kitchen that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (plus margaritas that are quite delicious) for purchase.
Lastly, the place is quiet, fairly close to Potrero Chico, and full of a very friendly community of climbers!

Definitely worth your money and time. A short walk from the action and a comfy place to stay. The hostel rooms have built into the wall bunks which I liked more than any bunkroom I have stayed in before. The restaurant has cheap food that is pretty good and if you want to cook for yourself the kitchen has it all.

Amazing accommodation option for climbers. They have both dorms and private rooms (ACd). Additionally they offer free entry to the bouldering gym, laundry service, one can use the community kitchen, store food in the fridge and enjoy the pool. Great place to make new climbing friends. They have a little restaurant but there are also other food options not too far. Walk to Hidalgo for groceries might take 20-30min.

Sendero is a lovely and thoughtful place. I stayed a month early 2020 in the hostel; when I arrived, I was sick with a stomach bug and traveling alone. The owners and staff went out of their way to take care of me, and I felt at home for the rest of the time. It was clear they had the same consideration for the other guests as well.

Absolutely killer campground, best in the Potrero by far!! Great kitchen facilities (actual stoves and a flat top! No hot plates!) and the most welcoming hosts to be found anywhere. Rancho El Sendero feels like home.

Nicest family in the canyon runs this campground! Valentin is one of the only campground owners in the area who is also a climber and is deeply engaged with the climbing community. Love this place!

Mario and his family are very hospitable and generous. These are the kinds of people you want to do business with. I will be planning all my future stays at Sendero when I visit Potrero un the future.
