Sarcofagos de Karajia

We were very glad we took the time to visit here. It was an easy 30 min walk down hill to the site (though a steep walk back). The sarcophagi are very impressive, and the history to follow was very interesting. We took binoculars, which we highly recommend to see in detail.

Amazing place to visit, easy walking

•There are are large Chachapoyas culture sarcophagi in Carajía, Peru.
•Local residents refer to the sarcophagi as the "ancient wise men"
•The Chachapoyas people located their sarcophagi in a difficult to reach locations to protect their dead.
•The seven sarcophagi (originally 8) are 2.5 meters tall, made of clay, sticks and grasses.
•Due to an earthquake in 1928 one of the original eight fell of.
•Inside the eighth sarcophagus, a mummy was found.
•It sat on an animal skin and was wrapped in mortuary cloths.
•Ceramics and diverse objects were accompanying the deceased as gifts.
•The Sarcophagi have been radiocarbon dated to the 15th century.

Nice walk. Impressive statues and story

Be prepared for a 2 hour bumpy drive, and a difficult 30 minute hike, but absolutely worth it! The have horses that you can use to get you part way. Pictures don't do it justice.

Very beautiful sarcophagi built in the middle of a cliff. It is possible to go in the nearest village by car but you have to walk less than two kilometers to reach the sarcophagi

Los caballos estaban bien cuidados y vi más caballos en los campos , creo q se turnan.

Es una experiencia increíble. El camino es de subida, pero con calma se puede hacer a pie. Si es un adulto mayor hay opción de subir y bajar en caballo por 20 soles, vas guiado por su arriero.

Este sitio arqueológico es interesante , el solo hecho de pensar como llegar a ese sitio , como lo han hecho los antepasados alli radica lo maravilloso, el pueblo que lo alberga es muy acogedor , pero no hay una infraestructura como para recibir turistas , por lo que es conveniente salir de Chachapoyas.

Es una caminata ligera hacia los sarcofagos de karajia. Se puede alquilar caballos. El recorrido para llegar es de 30 min aproximadamente. Por el lugar venden recuerdos. Los sarcofagos se encuentran en un lugar elevado. Y nos enseñan mas sobre la cultura chachapoyas.
