Highly energetically charged pre-Inca site. Pristine waters and great food on sure. Electricity has only been here 2 years so still relatively untouched by outside influence.

An island a couple of hours from the Uros Islands with incredible landscapes in the middle of the lake, with white sand beaches and crystal clear waters that houses a native community that still preserves its ancestral traditions such as weaving and farming.

Fantastic trail crossing the island with awesome views on the lake and surrounding islands (and Bolivia). Plenty of birds, including colibris. Very nice community and church and restaurant on top.

We took a day tour of Titicaca Lake from Puno one day that included a stop on Taquile Island.
We spent a few hours here, walking on the very well developed trails across the island, having a nice lunch at a restaurant run by local people, watching a local dance demonstration, and doing some shopping for woven goods and trinkets.
We enjoyed the amazing panoramic views from the island, and exploring the large fresh water white sand beaches.
Be aware that there is some uphill walking, and even though the paths are paved for the most part, wear good and comfortable shoes.
Also, the weather can turn nasty at times, so be prepared for rain and take a jacket for windy days.
Be sure to wear a hat, too, as the sun can be brutal.

Part of the Lake Titicaca islands, Taquile is best visited while in Puno, Peru.

You will be welcomed by the inhabitants with a dance. You can also join in if you're game, which we did.

The island is reminiscent of the Greek Islands. Clear blue waters and sandy beaches with green vegetation.

We walked from the north point across to the southwest of the island. Due to the altitude, we were often breathless and had to stop a few times to catch our breath but the island is beautiful and the walk was well worth it.

We did a day trip here. The island was calm and peaceful. Enjoyed fresh trout and mango juice in a local restaurant. The boat ride was almost 3 hours.

This is the other must do tour when you are in Puno Peru. The boat takes you on a two hour ride to Taquile Island in the middles of Lake Titicaca where you first do lunch followed by a hike up to the highest point of the island. The path is concrete with gradients and flats so not too difficult. The view at the top is fantastic.

I have fond memories of this place. When I went there in 2006 we had to ask permission from the Peruvian Government to spend the night on the island. They set us up with a local family ( there were no hotels ) and when the tourist ferry left, we were the only 2 travellers left on the island. It was magical. We hiked the whole island and felt at peace with nature. I am really hoping mass tourism has not ruined this place.

Great day trip from Uros or Puna. We went on a ~5 hour tour that included lunch and enjoyed beautiful views and learning a lot about the unique culture of the island. It’s high altitude so even the short walk up can feel like a challenge if you haven’t already acclimatized.

The island' pathways are quite steep but accessible. Do make sure to have some degree of fitness to be able to walk since it's not leveled and going uphill most of the time. The main pathway will stretch around the whole island and the views are wonderful. People are very friendly.

About a three-hour boat-ride from Puno, this island is a paradise where the Titicaca lake seems like an endless sea so pristine you are bound to long for a swim every day of your stay (the locals bathe themselves int he lake as the water supplies in the pipelines on the island are limited). The people on the island are kind and humble, food is delicious and the local crafts (weaving is typical for women while knitting for men) are of a high-quality and skill. All the locals are dressed in their traditional costumes and it is nothing unlikely to observe them exchange their coca leaves from the hand-crafted pouches as a gesture of kindness and friendship. The highest authority on the island is a president, not a mayor, and visitors are often invited to the local culturalcentre to observe dances and other foklore. Take a stroll, meditate, breathe, just enjoy the natural beauty everywhere... This place is bound to make it straight to your heart.

A beautiful experience. I booked the tour in conjunction with Uros Island. It's about a 1.5 hour boat ride if you go in the speed boats. No need need to take the slow boats that last 3 hours. After a while there isn't much to see in Lake Titicaca until you get closer to the island. It's fascinating to see the mountains of Bolivia covered in snow in the distance. This is very touristy, but a very fascinating experience to learn about their culture and how they adapt to live on this island. I had lunch here, which was really good. I love their quinoa bread and spicy salsa. Just like Uros, they sell handcrafts and souvenirs.

Welcome to Taquile, located on lake Titicaca where the Aymara live in a decently sized village on an island. I tried some of the best trout ever at Taquile. The Aymara living here are very welcoming. We learned more about their traditions and culture.

Men on this island are actually responsible for doing the knitting while the woman weave. Every item of clothing signifies something. Clothing is a visual language. Belts for men represent marriage while hats can represent being single, looking for love or being married.

We were also shown a knitting demonstration. Walking around the village could be a challenge for certain people as there are some steep inclines. You can even spot the snow capped mountains of Bolivia in the distance from here.

Great place to visit but be prepared for a very steep climb from the Dock to the plaza or restaurants, worth it once you make it though

Taquile is a beautiful island in the highest navigable lake of the world - lake Titicaca. Taquile island has and interesting story on its own as people living there has their unique was of dressing, which stems from the conquest from the Spanish people. The island is like a small paradise. Would recommend to take a one day tour if you happen to be in Puno.

Interesting place on lace Titicaca, where people build their own islands and live free of tax even the lake is under Unesco?! Take a boat in Puno on a all day tour.

I love the view of this place and the simple living of the natives in Taquile Island.

In here, I prove to myself that marriage last forever. They were able to pass around for generations and preserved their culture. Separation or divorce is not an option for the people living here. I like the hat identification of teens, singles, married, widow and officials of the place. The place is highly elevated and going up is really a challenge for some. The spectacular view of the lake Titicaca is all worth it from above.

Beautiful small island for trail, trekking and to eat with locals while enjoying nature. A must place to go if you are close to Titicaca Lake. Fully worthwhile experience.
