Built in the 10th century AD, Malot temple fort has the synthesis of Kashmiri and Greek architecture. Made of coarse sandstone of various shades of red and yellow, many parts of the temple have suffered severely due to weather.

It is not a well know place and many people would be surprised to find that it is the oldest surviving building or structure in Pakistan. Harappa or Mohenjodaro are just ruins discovered later on. It is here for more than one thousand years. As usual, there seems to be no official care. I visited this place last time in March, 2009, and until then there was not even a plaque to tell about its history. However, one thing is certain it was built during Hindu Shahi kingdom, sometime in 9th or 10th century AD, before the invasion of Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi.

Two ancient temples are found there. One of them is ruined and other one is in good condition. Above all, the surroundings of malot temple are very attractive having cool breeze and an aerial view of all nearby places.

#Malot_temple is about 25km westward from Katas temples . Here on Hilltop is an ancient complex of temples , which were built aroud 980 A.D . In days gone-by town & fort of Malot covered and area over 5 km square.
Two hindu temples are located here and are beautiful specimen of Kashmir architecture. These temples are made of local red sand stones of salt range mountains

The travel to this place needs exit from Motorway at Kallar Kahar South side and drive towards Choa Saidan Shah road. Take right on Jalebi Chowk and enjoy the scenic views driving parallel to Motorway. It just keeps on getting more scenic when passing by abandoned coal mines. When at Y-junction facing green mustard fields, take right and go to the end of the road.

The place is serene and the wind makes howling sounds due to pressure. Lookout for the cracks in the earth and they run deep into the mountains. The cliffs by the temple present and beautiful panoramic view. The journey is safe during the daytime even with family.

Very good place for those who likke historical places

Malot fort is one of the oldest Forts in Pakistan A worth place to visit. But prefer to use 4×4 because of rough track. This place offers you a mesmerising view of salt range mountains.
