Matlai Restaurant

The food was absolutely delicious!! The coconut crab soup is the best thing I’ve had in Zanzibar so far! The restaurant is open air right by the beach with beautiful views and a nice breeze. The service was great and very friendly. Lovely place, highly recommend!

I can absolutely recommend visiting this restaurant while you're on Zanzibar! I had my lunch there and I was impressed of the taste and the whole atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and courteously! The service was simply just amazing! I will definitely come back!!

The Matlai is a hidden gem. The food is tasty, staff is friendly and professional. Simply you feel royally welcome.

One of the best restaurants on Sansibar. Real secret place. Cocktails, food and Service is just perfect. Many things are homemade and very good. They have table soccer, dart and many other games. We really enjoyed here. Prices are like in Europe.

The crab soup is to die for! All our food was top notch as well as our drinks. Server was so sweet and we got a spot looking out onto the beach. A hidden gem 💎✨

I had dinner here last week. The food and service was amazing. Freddie, the barkeeper made a very refreshing cocktail for me. The ambiance was great. It was really relaxing to see the beautiful ocean while I ate. There were lots of food choices to chose from. I went with menu of the day. I highly recommend. If I have the chance, I will definitely come back .

The food and drinks were really good. The view of the ocean was amazing and our waiter Fredy was more than patient with our large group.

We had this dish yesterday at the restaurant for dinner... It's a mind-blowing meal! The restaurant and bar is very cozy, romantic and neady, their signature cocktails were amazing as well, my favorite is Flying Matlai, fresh and joyful taste... The staff are very friendly and attentive. It's not easy hard to find a place with good foods and quality of service as this place. Highly recommended for a classy dinner and get-away from the crowd 👌

By far the best restaurant on this beach!
The setting is amazing. The restaurant has many levels so everyone could enjoy the view, and the enchanting sea-winds reached the very back. The restaurant was well-furnished and was extremely clean. They were also equipped to deal with diners of all ages.

We went there twice: The seafood casserole was mouth-watering and I liked their curry crab soup. The kids had a seafood pasta that was very filling and delicious as well.

Their desserts were truly luxurious, and delicious. We had the tropical ice-cream which quickly became a family favorite, and the passionfruit cheesecake was really good. For the level of service offered, definitely value for money.

The only thing is it is better to book a table before showing up, as they have limited tables and can get quite busy. Also, for Muslims: they serve alcohols and wine, so be careful to ask for virgin or halal drinks when ordering.

Shout out to Yemen, the hospitable manager who came to our table and ended up chatting to us and giving us priceless local advice! Was definitely a high-light for our trip!

Since I got here in Zanzibar ,this the best service and meal I’ve had .if I could give them anything more than 5* I would .
First there was confusion in my order which was 100% my fault though Julius wanted to take all fault but we settled for 50/50 😂 ,they had to return the first order and I had to wait more but they gave me a free starter while I wait some more even though ,I repeat ,it was completely my fault .
I was only charged for the one meal I had ordered but not the second 🥹.
Delicious 🤤 it was ,beautifully done and presented .The service ,Monica ,Julius and another guy forgot to take his name ,were so happy so serve ,the whole service team served with smiles and joy ,it was refreshing to watch ,please keep your spirits up always ,you serve with love ,definitely will be back .Thank you 💟

Wow! I had the best time ever here! I enjoyed this restaurant and I'm extremely grateful I stayed at my favorite hotel for less than what I generally pay. We are so glad to have booked our 1 night excursion here! Now when we have more time we know we will stay here! The place is gorgeous and 5 stars on the bed linens sheets top and bottom. Loved the bed & pillows too! Thank you for making my first time in Zanzibar so beautiful! ! Beautiful hotel, great location and extremely friendly staff! The staff is so friendly here and always welcoming. When I called the desk for things, the staff promptly got it to us. I was super impressed with the kindness and professionalism of everyone. The pool area is beautiful and relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended!! Thanks guys

This was by far one of the best seafood experiences of my life, that includes beautiful, delicious food and fantastic service. We ate at this restaurant twice for dinner and once for lunch. Each time exceeded our expectations! The seafood is exquisite but the chef's art is not limited to local cuisine. We loved all the dishes but the outstanding qualities were apparent in the seafood dishes. The Trio Tuna and seafood platter is worth every penny. Beef dishes, the mishkaki and sweet and spicy beef, were great also. The crab mille feuille was superb. Try the cocktails. Everything is freshly prepared and you can taste that.
