Beautiful Fortress in Khotyn...

The city was set up in 1621... so it's celebrating 400th anniversary in 2021...

The Fortress has a grand vast and green area around it (but within its outer perimeter wall), a grand and beautiful cathedral located next to it... but the main attraction is the Fortress itself...

It has an impressive majestic look of a traditional European Fortress, a wooden drawbridge at the entrance, huge towering stone walls with conical towers giving an impressive look...

A great collection of old artifacts are on display along with various rooms and compartments that give a good picture of the life in the Fortress in the olden days...

We couldn't see any paid guide or audio guide... but during peak tourist season, there may be some... A tourist guide would have been a good help for us to understand the history better...

Overall, it was a fantastic experience for us.

Massive fortress overlooking the Dnister river in Khotyn. Inside the fortress walls you can see some historical artifacts. The territory is vast and you can roam alongside the fort walls for some time. You can bring a picnic and sit atop the hills for a spectacular view of the fort and river. There are also some crafts available for purchase from pottery to wooden goods near the entrance.

One of the biggest fortress I ever seen the dimension of the walls and the place by the river surrounded by hills make this place very precious. It's one of this places you must see in Ukraine.

Historical old Fortress Indeed! Totally worth the 6.5 hour drive from Kiev to check out the fortresses in the area of Kamianets-Podilskyi! This one was in pretty good shape and maintenance and upkeep was being conducted during our visit. Crazy history of the different people who occupied the fortress over the years. I especially appreciated the old paintings and weapons cellar!

Best fortress in Ukraine with great and long history. Much bigger vs I sow across Germany and Czech. 3 hours at least needed to well observe all corners and towers.

This is one of the greatest fortress in Europe and in Ukraine. Just one hour drive from Chernivtsi city, and very recommended. It is the only fortress which survived over wars and time and almost with the same walls and towers which were built in XV-XVI centuries. Well know from the times of the war between cossacs, the Ukrainian warriors, and Othoman empire naval when cossacs won. It is located on upon the river Dnister band, on it's highest point. There is a historical sites full a lot of legends and spirits of that times. ))))
Today this is a memorial museum and original place to visit with the family and friends. There's open a new branded museum with 5he art gallery presenting the war times.
The admittion fee is about 50 UAH per person. Together with this fortress it is very recommended to visit Kamianets Podilsk fortress like 20 min drive from here.

Fantastic fortress with an amazing location. I did this as a day trip from Kamyaniets-Podilsky and found it very straightforward. To do it go to main bus station in KP. The bus left from platform 3; it cost 25 to get there and 30 to get back. I included screenshots where the you get dropped off and get the bus back. It is around 2km away from the fortress so about a 20 minute walk.
I was there around 11 and almost nobody there so a lot quieter and frankly more impressive than the fortress in KP. It is definitely worth a daytrip.

Take a good storyteller-guide, it's amazing historical place. The history of wars and power of Kings, trade paths control and religion changes...

A fantastic place to visit, completely different experience than the fortresses we visited i Romania. Everything seems very authentic, but well kept. It's a 300m walk from the parking lot, which saves you from seeing cars and other modern things during the visit. One major drawback for the museum part of the visit is that there is no non-ukrainian text. All we could read was text on a couple of old paintings in german.

A must-see in Ukraine: silence and atmosphere are surreal as if time never passed. I wish technology does not enter in this visit.
