Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids

My son has level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder and one of the hardest things to accomplish for him is getting his haircut. It is extremely difficult to find someone who is patient, understanding and accommodating to cut his hair.

Today, I went to Shear Madness to get those dreaded haircuts. When it was my son’s turn, he fought me hard and became a bowl of limp noodles when trying to get him to the chair. After a few minutes that felt like an eternity of struggling, Perla- who happened to be the salon manager- came to me and said “Mama, I am more than ok with cutting his hair out here. He doesn’t have to sit in the chair.” She was so patient, gentle and talked him through his entire haircut in a way HE would understand. “You see the purple (she was switching from a 2 to a 1)? We are changing it to white now- can you say white?” She would show him, let him touch it and then do a little tickle on the back of his neck to ensure him everything was going to be ok. When he moved, Perla moved too, all while continuing to cut his hair and interact with him. Half way through his haircut, another stylist came by and sat down next to them and the three of them sang baby shark, and counted, did ABC’s, and just fully submerged themselves into my son’s world.

This beautiful experience brought on a wave of emotions and I will cherish this experience, Perla and the entire team at Shear Madness for the rest of my life❤

My kids love all the Shear Madness locations. They get to play video games and choose from fun chairs to sit in. The boutique has the cutest toys. The whole atmosphere and experience is super fun. I definitely recommend for 1st haircuts or just a treat. They also offer small parties and children's spa services. How cute!?

Couldn’t recommend Shear Madness enough! We are first time parents and brought our 2 year old here for her first hair cut. I was very hesitant because her hair is extremely curly. Kendra was our hair stylist and she was absolutely fantastic. From the friendliness to the employees, to the kid friendly environment. I really couldn’t think of a better place to bring our little girl! Will absolutely be returning for all future haircuts.

We had my one year old son’s first haircut at Shear Madness in Lee’s Summit today. Our stylist Maddy did such a great job and was so patient. My son was very squirmy and fussy the whole time and the cut still turned out great! I don’t know how she managed to do it but I’m very impressed! Highly recommend!

The staff at this location are always friendly and very accommodating. We drive about 30 mins from Overland Park just to go to this location as it is conveniently located and plenty of parking. If you want to go shopping or have lunch before or afterwards, this is a perfect spot.

These ladies are so patient and caring. My son refuses to have his hair cut anywhere else. We request Pearla the manager and he always does so well for her. This is huge as my son is not big on letting new people near him.

Took my youngest son and daughter and they had a great experience. Sometimes my son has issues with the sound of the clipper, but with the movie on he was distracted.

My Daughter took her 11 month old to get his first hair cut. He came home looking like a little man. His hair looked so good. She got their first haircut pack. It came with a before and after photo with a lock of his hair attached. My daughter said the lady who cut his hair was so patient and nice. She said he wouldn't stop moving. Yet his hair looked like he sat super still.

He sat in a super cute airplane that helped keep him entertained while the lady cut his hair.

Very friendly, fun inviting environment! Neat toys to buy for kids, or just let them play! My child was not afraid one bit as some children can be. They gave a few choices for a movie to put on as well as his choice of where to sit.

My son has autism and can’t talk yet at almost 3. I was positive his first haircut would be a nightmare but he didn’t even flinch! Not even at the clippers! Natasha was awesome and gave us the exact cut we wanted.

Amazing. Just amazing! First time I got my 1 year olds hair cut. Was extremely nervous. Upon walking in you will be surprised with the shear amount of toys that kids can play with while waiting. Immediately I was relieved. Kendra cut my son's hair. She has the patience of mother Theresa. She did amazing work while being patient with my son's attempt to escape the chair. Overall, amazing experience. Much love to Kendra, and ALL AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE! will be coming back for sure!

My 11 month old was not happy about getting his hair cut. Perla was so patient with his crying and was quickly able to get his hair cut. If you’re worried about your little one tolerating a hair cut, I would definitely recommend here. They have different vehicle chairs for the kids to sit in and movies for the kiddos to watch.

A fun place for kids to get a haircut 💇‍♀. A store with toys is attached! It's worth the drive!

I will never take my grands anywhere else (8yr old girl, 2yr old boy)! We love everything about Shear Madness! Not only are the kids treated VERY WELL, I am always pleased with their haircuts!

This business has also refrained from gouging prices like everything else we need to buy. Extremely fair prices for outstanding quality and service! Please tip your stylist! They deserve it!

I cannot say enough great things about this place!

I took my 11 month old son here for his first haircut. He absolutely loved it, didn’t cry one time. He didn’t want to leave the little car haha. The haircut looks amazing. I was worried about getting his hair cut so soon but he has a lot of hair and it was a mess. He was already cute but now he’s somehow even cuter!!! Perla was great with him and we’ll request her when we go back!

Brought our 2 year old their first haircut, the ladies there were very patient and good with him despite his objections. Definitely recommende to any parent or a young child.

10/10 will go back. This place is amazing!! The toy store kept my 4 year old son busy and entertained while we waited for our appointment time (we showed up 15 minutes early). Our stylist was so sweet and fun! She did an AMAZING job and it was so inexpensive! This place is amazing! We'll definitely be back for all of the kids' haircuts.

We've been coming to this location for our daughters for the last six years. They do a fantastic job!

The atmosphere is light, fun, and age appropriate. The hair stylists are sweet and sincere and do an amazing job considering children move and are sometimes distracted. I feel that this would be a safe place for children with sensory needs, although the lights might be a little bright for some.

Pearla, hope I'm spelling her name right, did a perfect job on my 7 year old today! Her pixie cut came out looking so fresh and not "Karen" looking. She even braided my daughter's long hair and cut it for me to keep since it didn't meet the length requirements for donations. Which, by the way, they have several organizations to choose from!

We will continue to come here!
