This is a great school with great staff and teachers. You would be hard pressed to find a more friendly environment. These people do not understand what they are talking about. People are quick to write negative but forget the positive Teachers had nothing to do with the incident involving the blind student. That was a contracted bus driver who took the cane away and that was wrong but don't blame the teacher or the school. The student received the cane from the school district so before you say anything negative you need to review the facts. I would agree that the Driver should not have taken the cane away but then again why was the student hitting others with the cane? Would you allow another student to hit a student with a stick? I think we can all agree the answer is no.

I personally loved this school. Some of its features weren't so good. In my opinion I didn't like the lunch. So I ate PB and J for the rest of the year. All of the teachers were nice. Some are strict but sometimes really nice! Our EX- principal Dr. Kupka was the BEST principal ever. She's our EX because she retired :( . All I have to say is you will learn good at this school. I'm going off to middle school. Good bye :D

So many 1 star reviews written by people that don't even live in the district based upon the short sighted actions of a few people. Yes it was awful what was done to the blind student but Gracemor is an excellent school and we are lucky to such a fine school in the neighborhood.

Written by someone who does live in the district!

My daughter transferred here last year. The school is amazing! The teachers and staff are great and I have no complaints. I can't speak for the other reviews on her but I have nothing but good things to say about Gracemor.

Gracemor is an amazing school with an amazing staff and an amazing community behind them. You can truly see that children are the main focus and that the teachers love their job!

I went to this school and the teachers and principles were nice. However I do not agree with taking away the cane of a blind child. That is the only way they can see and accidents will happen.

My kids were new to the school and while kindergarten was great for my son, my daughter came home crying most days. In 4th grade she got bullied by a group of girls and after talking with the teacher AND principal it continued. I don't feel these individuals took enough action to stop the issues. At one point my daughter talked with the principal on an issue and was threatened to be suspended even though she literally did nothing to deserve it. I did everything I could over the summer to ensure my children will not attend this school again.

How many teachers are there at this school? How many staff members? You mean to tell me that ALL of those people are SO STUPID that they couldn't come up with a better solution than to take away the blind kid's cane? Heck, I can think of three options off the top of my head- 1). Cover the cane with foam (or heck, even cutting up the noodle might work!) or something soft so the boy can still use it; 2). Have the boy's parents drive him to school until things on the bus are resolved; or 3). HAVE a freakin' conversation with everyone about the proper use of a cane!!! Three solutions, and I'm not even a licensed "educator!" If that's the IQ level of this school's teachers and staff I certainly hope it is shut down as soon as possible.

In my opinion, the person that took the child’s cane away from him should have charges brought against them for child abuse. This is his only means of travel and movement in a room or wherever. In addition, the person that did this should be blindfolded with a material that would not harm but made sure that they cannot see and be given the noodle cane to get around and see just how difficult it would be. The child goes by sound and feel of the cane. How inconsiderate the person that did this action is unacceptable. The principle of the school should be fired and charges be held against him to for the approval of this action.

Shameful. The teachers and usually the staff members are schooled in child psychology which is part of their requirement in obtaining and elementary education degree. I doubt this method of discipline is taught in college. So, that being said, I think the staff member who used this form of discipline should be blindfolded and told to go through one school day. Maybe that will open their eyes to the experiences blind people go through every day.

what deplorable people. taking away a child's only way to make it through the place on his own. how about if you were in a wheelchair, accidentally bumped someone and had to drag yourself ground level from then on.

Shocking. I suppose they will take wheelchairs from kids that "go unsafely fast" in the hallway. Take braces of kids with polio that run down the hall. Take a kids prosthetic arm if he bangs on the door.

Taking the child's connection to the world around him. All who thought this was a good idea, or knew about it, need to be removed from their positions.

I am extremely outraged at the actions of the school to take away a blind child's cane and replacing it with a Pool Noodle? Are you !$%$@# serious?
