Lula Southern Cookhouse

We came with our family and we had various dishes. They were all delicious. I ordered Chicken and Waffles but my waffle was a little cold. Maybe they thought the hot chicken would warm the waffle. Our waitress was phenomenal! She was very patient with our family and my crazy brother! I can’t remember her name but she was from Detroit. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the drinks. I will visit again to try other dishes on the menu!

I typically don't post renewed so quickly, but I am literally STILL SITTING AT THE TABLE...!!! First off, the atmosphere is certainly Southern, warm, cozy with 'Grandma's House' written all over the place! The staff (Matt and Amelia) were simply wonderful. Matt was super attentive and pleasant. Now, the food.... BABY, LET ME TELL YOU... RUN, DONT WALK TO THIS PLACE!! Me and my husband both had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was well seasoned and the waffle was crispy and light! They serve it with a chili syrup that is AMAZING! I had a side of Mac and cheese...WHICH HAS BEEN THE BEST MAC AND CHEESE I have ever had at a restaurant!! My husband had the cheese grits and he WAS IN GRIT HEAVEN!!! The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of food you are being served! This place is OFFICIALLY on my 'must go to' restaurants for KC!!

I think you can see that I really loved this place!!!! We went for my friend’s birthday. The menu is jammed packed full of delicious options, so much so that we settled for girl dinner: All Apps! It also helps that they have a deal this summer that every Thursday it’s Happy Hour all day, which makes the apps 20% off.
The spread: Crispy Fried Pork Spare Ribs, New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, Triple Dips, Muffaletta Deviled Eggs, Crispy Okra & Cheese Curds. Ham Glazed Green Beans and Brown Sugar Sweet Potatoes. And a shared order of the Gumbo!
Wow! The flavors that these dishes packed!? So good. The shrimps had a kick, the dips were complex and sweet potatoes were stellar. But the star was the green beans!
We also splurged for dessert: Ice Box Pie, Pig Pickin’ Cake and Pecan Pie Cookies. So delicious, each one brought something to the menu!
Can’t wait to go back

Danielle was such a great waitress. We had a big group in town for a conference. She gave us great recommendations we all love them.

The food was EXCELLENT. I would recommend it and hope that I am able to come back in the future.

A surprisung find when I realized that it was too late to try out one of the famous Kansas City BBQ spots.

A good ole Southern boy it was a refreshing experience. Ambiance, a relaxed vibe, great service, as well as great probing questions to determine what we like. Then, our server made relevant suggestions that hit the spot as well as the new and different things that were good.

The details and decor of this resteraunt is amazing! Customer service was amazing! We visited during happy hour and got the fried okra and cocktails, Mississippi pot roast and collard greens and oh my gosh were they all amazing! Will definitely be back often!

Everything was great! I was able to get a same-day Sunday brunch reservation and we even got in early. Service was friendly and quick and the food was phenomenal. Add to this a feeling of being at Grandma's house and it's the trifecta.

We've been missing Southern cooking since visiting Charleston and while this place says it's a North Carolina place, it's delicious all the same! We ate outside and it totally reminded us of 82 Queen where we ate in Charleston. Highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for an amazing atmosphere and/or food!!!

If you want a FULL SLICE OF HEAVEN drop in this wonderful establishment! OMG I can’t say enough good things about this place. From the front door to the back of the house is nothing but excellence! THE FOOD IS PHENOMENAL!!! I ordered the Blackened Delta Catfish. It comes with collard green and dirty rice with a Cajun cream sauce. My drink was a To Peach Their Own and it was just that! 😊 I will DEFINITELY be back.

Simply amazing!! We had a decent size party and tried a variety of dishes. Not a single complaint. Our server Courtney was spot on, and provided top notch service. Thank you!!!

Wonderful atmosphere. Terrific food. Flavors are out out this world. Southern at its finest. We were there for brunch on a Sunday. We were seated immediately and our food was served faster than I can feed instagram with photos! Our server Gustavo had a laugh that can bring world peace. Definitely put this in your hit list when visiting KC❤

Had dinner with a friend here, awesome experience. Food first. We skipped appetizers, got a half fried chicken, sweet potato and vege and rice as sides, and a gumbo. Both are awesome but I prefer the chicken a bit more. Very juicy tender fried chicken, a little bit on the salty side but who cares. The biscuit that comes with the chicken is also very good. The sweet potato side is amazing. Overall I really loved the food. Every meal here is gonna be 5000 calories haha but you know that when you choose southern comfort food lol. Service is good but it’s on the slower side. Ambiance is awesome. The bathroom is very interesting, it’s in the basement where it showed some history of the restaurant. There appears to be a ham hanging there too I don’t know what’s going on but I think it’s fake?? lol. Some guests get really really loud during our dinner so if you want a quiet place, this might not be it. But great for having friends or family get together. Highly recommend and I will be back.

Wow! What a fantastic restaurant! Real home style southern cooking. Waitress was outstanding, attentive and very knowledgeable describing the dishes. They really have pride in the food they make and attention to quality. Lydia service for us and was outstanding!

The staff is fantastic and the food is really really good! A bit too much breading on my catfish for me but that's splitting hairs lol. Full stars from me! Check Lulas out!

Oh my goodness, we absolutely adored this restaurant! From the beautiful decor to the lively live music, the atmosphere was just perfect. And the food...oh my, it was simply divine! While we did have to wait a bit for our meal to arrive, the restaurant was positively bustling, so we totally understood. Plus, our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're planning a visit, we highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time to ensure you don't have to wait too long. And whatever you do, make sure you try the fried oysters - they were out of this world!

Lula's was great! Perfect for a date or group dinner. The grilled catfish was flavorful and seasoned well. My favorite was the Mac and cheese. Spiraled noodles with a mix of delicious cheeses. The sweet potatoes were cooked well, but I prefer them on the sweeter side. The drink menu had a number of great options.

The first time I went I like that atmosphere I love the food except the green beans. What I told the manager I didn't like them and why they did everything they could to replace them with something else. I went back the second time March 24th 2024 and they treated me with the utmost respect. My food was absolutely delicious. And I like how the manager Chris kept coming by the table to check on us. I love this place it is a must go.

Home of the most perfect Hoppin' John to ever exist, and biscuits that are even better than your grandma's! Those folks in Charleston don't know what they're missing out on by not adding butterbeans to their Hoppin' John like the folks at Lula's do. I know my Memaw is spinning in her grave as I say this, but those are the best biscuits I've ever had in my life. The Bleu cheese grits and shrimp are out of this world delicious. Probably my favorite place to eat in KCMO.

Blackened catfish was full of flavor. Collard greens that came with the catfish was super tasty and delicious. Wife had the fried shrimp and she said it was very good. Space was cute inside, good place to have a few drinks as well. We’ll be back!
