Exceptional Experience at Midwest Shooting in Hiawatha, IA

I've been a regular at Midwest Shooting in Hiawatha, IA, and every visit has been fantastic. The staff here are not only friendly but incredibly knowledgeable, always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. One of the things I appreciate most is their affordable membership options tailored to individual needs, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy shooting sports.

The range facilities are top-notch, with a great selection of firearms and accessories available. What sets this place apart is the camaraderie among members. I've had the pleasure of meeting and shooting alongside friendly individuals who have even offered me the chance to try out their firearms, adding a fun and educational aspect to my visits.

Midwest Shooting also offers excellent classes for those looking to learn and improve their shooting skills. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced shooter, there's something valuable to gain from their courses.

We took the Pull the Trigger Class several years ago and it was a great experience.

I highly recommend Midwest Shooting to anyone interested in shooting sports. It's a welcoming environment with great facilities, knowledgeable staff, and a community of friendly members.

I recently took the “Pull the Trigger” class from Tyrone and it was excellent. He covered the basics of handgun safety, ownership, knowledge, and skills, and backed it with real life examples, not only in scenarios but with hands on demos. He was open to questions and took the time to answer them thoroughly. He made the class fun and enjoyable, all while making sure everyone was getting what they needed out of it. The opportunity to shoot at the simulator was fun, shooting at range was an added bonus. (Guns were available if you didn’t bring your own). All in all a very positive experience. I would highly encourage anyone that’s new to handguns, or even someone that needs refresher, to take this class. There’s always new information to learn.

I also purchased several things from the store while I was there and the sales staff were equally great. They answered questions, explained options, and pointed me in the right direction, all without being pushy. And when they didn’t have a magazine on hand that I was looking for they ordered it for me.

Great bunch, all the way around.

Spent lots of time researching for a handgun. I knew exactly what I wanted and which features were a necessity. I called and they had the one with the safety and one without. I wanted to stay local and buy from a place I could come back in the future for ammo and future purchases.

The guy who helped me was great. I wanted his opinion as a prospective new handgun owner. He was knowledgeable and didn't pressure me toward his preference or certain brand. Made me feel comfortable with my purchase.

My background check went through in 10 minutes and walked out with a handgun, ammo, and cleaning kit.

I will be back in the future!

So just had my second experience at their indoor range and my first experience buying at Midwest Shooting. The staff were all very professional and well educated when it came to fire arms. I was testing out different everyday carry options and the staff knew exactly what models I was wanting to trying. The indoor range was very clean and straight forward; I can't wait to go back. I did a trade in and got a new pistol the same day. Since it wasn't stated as an fyi, trade-in is half MSRP and kit firearms aren't accepted, which as a whole makes perfect sense given the liability and the fact they are a business. The staff on duty (Levi) was stellar, he had plenty of recommendations as far as a new RMR and even helped with the install (I did the final tightening for the record) in shop which is above and beyond what I've experienced at other local companies. Pricing was very fair as when compared to MSRP. I will definitely return! Thanks Midwest!

Great people, great facility! Prices are about what you would find in most other places me but they're pretty fair overall. The range is clean and the filtration system works well. The target retrieval systems work OK, but sometimes they fail to function. Failures are usually short lived.

Great experience every time I go. Helpful staff and willing to educate. If you haven’t taken their gun safety class, you should! Definitely my go to gun experts.

I bought my first firearm, A Taurus GS2 9mm about a month ago but did not shoot it until today. My receipt says I worked with Jason but I honestly don't remember his name. He had long hair and glasses and he was so helpful. He gave me a quick rundown of how to disassemble and clean my gun and then took me into the range and helped me in there a bit. I was so impressed that I bought the annual gold membership. I highly recommend them.

I have absolutely nothing to say, but great things. Levi was fantastic to work with and, as a first-time gun owner, the try-before-you-buy program (you get to fire three weapons, five bullets from each, for ten dollars) was perfect and I found something I am very happy with. He took time to explain all the details, such as the differences between ammo and how to take care of my weapon. I've since purchased a membership, which allows me to use their indoor range so that I won't be freezing at an outdoor range this winter while I practice. I had been to other places around town and had less than great experiences. At Midwest Shooting, the environment was super relaxed, but they knew what they were talking about and I was able to feel comfortable enough to ask questions.

My wife and I took the Pull the Trigger class today with Tyrone. I have shot before, but it's been a while. My wife had never shot before. This class was fantastic and Tyrone was great and clearly very experienced. He explained safety operation and basic shooting skills. We were able to practice in a simulation room and on the shooting range. Recommended for anyone.

Great selection of handguns, long guns, and even some suppressors. They have some mildly exotic weapons like the SCAR-17 and some bullpups if you’re sick in the head. Good stockpile of various ammos. I did not see or use the range. Employees are friendly and helpful

Great experience as a first time gun buyer. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be taken seriously or would feel dumb, but the person I worked with was great. I don’t remember his name unfortunately but it was a younger guy with long hair. He was very helpful and made me feel comfortable with the entire process.

I’m obviously not an expert, but from a brief Google comparison, the prices seemed fair. I didn’t look at too many things, but they seemed to have a good selection of firearms, ammo, and equipment.

I have never been to a shooting range in person but everything met my expectations. They even have two separate ranges, which was nice learning on the one that was empty at the time.

I’ll need plenty of practice so I will definitely be coming back. I will update my review if I experience anything different. I’d definitely recommend them based off my first visit!

I definitely recommend taking their “Pull the Trigger” class! Their instructor is very knowledgeable. He knows how to present a class in a non-condescending way and keep their attention.

My wife and I took the class after recently purchasing a handgun. It was exactly what we needed focusing on safety, proper handling, and finally live firing of our weapon. Tyrone’s experience and knowledge really helped drive all points home (safety and the proper mindset in handling and firing our handgun). Tyrone was patient and gave us ample time to ask questions to our satisfaction. Thank you Midwest shooting for offering Pull the Trigger!

First Shooter - Class participant.

I had never held, let alone fired a pistole. The money was very well spent that allowed me to gain an invaluable experience with no skills, no gun and no idea of what to expect.

I received 4 hours of instruction from a well spring of knowledge of a man who at one point in his career was a Marine shooting instructor and competitive pistole team member.

I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive and intimidated prior to the class, not knowing what to expect, however, those fears were completely unfounded. My instructor was soft-spoken, earnest and deliberate with his delivery of the course material presented in the classroom and the range. I learned quite a bit about gun safety protocol, gun operation and a surprising amount about ammo (I had no idea). Also the instructor was patient with all participants and eager to answer any of my and my classmates questions.

As stated above I do not own a gun so one was provided for me to shoot in the range portion of the class (SIG P226, MK-25). I purchased 50 rounds of ammo and the rest is history (see attached photo, 5yards).

The pointers I learned on the range for grip, stance, head positioning (cross dominant) built a solid foundation for an enjoyable experience.

I highly recommend this class for the novice. It was a very structured, safe and informative first time experience.

Best, most friendly customer service on the planet! The facility is laid out very well. The store is well stocked with firearms of every description with after-market items for every firearm imaginable and enough great inventory to shop for days. I found a rifle I had been looking for for a Long time and purchased it at a very reasonable price. Jaymus was there to make sure everything went well with my purchase. Before AND after!
Thanks Midwest and thanks Jaymus! I'll look at Midwest Shooting first before I shop anywhere else.

Everyone at Midwest shooting was friendly and we are looking forward to our upcoming class and many hours on the shooting range. So thankful this wonderful store is so close to us!

This was a great location to go to for our first experience at a shooting range. Levi was super helpful and took the time to walk us through all of the basics, and attentively answered all of our questions to help us get what we wanted out of the experience. We will definitely be back to practice more!

Definitely the most lgbtq+ friendly gun shop/range in the area, amazing customer service with informative employees that are always available and willing to help. The rentals are pretty inexpensive and reliable, overall the best shooting experience I've had. I just got a membership here and I'm looking forward to popping paper again soon!

Recently purchased a newly available Shadow 2 made by CZ USA, that was just available from manufacturing inventory. The pistol was ordered from Midwest Shooting on Monday of this week. They called this Wednesday that had arrived. Loved the quick delivery. Have seen few reviews that were concerned about a delivery that was day more than expected, and saddened to see reviewer that did not take into consideration, the delays by manufacturers, or couriers. So to you Midwest, you delivered a great new CZ, early, but if would have taken little longer, I am not short on pistols to shoot at your range....
