General Store Events

Very good food in a historical building. Service was great and they have seating upstairs, downstairs, on the deck or by the grain bin bar. A lot of antiques on the wall and in use.

We stopped in here today just for a drink. Ended up buying an appetizer. We had the Pinacon platter. Which was a sort of charcuterie board with salmon and veggies. Pita bread slices and feta cheese it was delicious. Our waitress was a very friendly gal. Just a nice experience.

Very pleasant experience. The food was awesome as was our waitress. One of the best new editions is the county Freedom Rock near the grounds of the General Store.

Sometimes you stumble upon a real gem, and the General Store is just such a place! Nestled into the hills along the Wapsipinicon River, the old stone building thrives with new life and tasty food. We were well cared for by our effervescent server Christine, who happily shared the chef specials and local history. Tonight's shrimp was superb and the blueberry bread pudding delightful. Fascinating inside with two decks overlooking the river. Don't pass this place by!

This is such a unique place. Went downstairs to the bar area. Had an amazing meal. Service was great. You gotta check this cute place out

I’ve always loved this place and this visit was no exception! The staff were working hard to decorate for Christmas while serving customers and they didn’t miss a beat! The food was hot and fresh as well.

Food was tasty. I had a tenderloin and wife had loaded nachos. Enjoyed watching the hummingbird and kyackers go by. The music was relaxing to listen to after we ate too.

What else can I say? You either love this place or you have never been here. Food is always great and hot and fast. Server to guest ratio is one of the highest I have ever seen at any restaurant anywhere. Bloody Mary's are as about as good as you can find. Beautiful back porch overlooking the Wapsi. You can feed the fish right off the back. There is a fake spider you can drop down on unsuspecting guests, and even a S'mores Fondue dessert. Charming, historic, and beautiful location. ! would put this place on the top 10 of destination dining places in the state of Iowa.

This is a great little "Secret" spot. I don't think I've ever had a bad thing on the menu, and the house drinks are a treat! When the weather is nice, you can go out on the deck that overlooks the weather and enjoy the view!

A local favorite, this is definitely a place to check out if you’re in the area and looking for some great food. The burgers are amazing, and the apps and sweet potato fries are highlights as well. If it’s the warmer season, check out the deck!

This was our first time here. It was Friday night, so pretty busy and short staffed as usually for any dining establishment lately. We had the BEST waitress, Krystina. She explained the history behind The General Store Pub and Stone City. She explained the specials and was so attentive. The drinks were great, the food was great, but the service was AMAZING! Our kids even commented on how much they liked Krystina. Every staff we encountered was very nice. Will definately be back.

Great night out to celebrate my mom's birthday. Was even surprised to walk in to bingo being played. This place ROCKS!

Limestone architecture, the river view, good old fashioned food fare along with reasonable prices make this a destination to stop and enjoy. Don't plan on just eating and leaving! Thanks Joni for such great service!

Fantastic burger, sweet potato fries and onion rings plus fun drinks and a gorgeous view on the back patio. Staff was friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

Didn't know what to expect when my Dad and I arrived for lunch and weren't disappointed! The general store and Stone City have a unique history that our server told us all about. She even brought out a book with historic photos of the building. The food came out quickly and the pulled pork sandwich (called "the dumptruck") was delicious! Only complaint would be that there weren't any enforced covid restrictions, so anyone who is immunocompromised or very concerned should be aware of that. Apart from that I would still highly recommend to anyone in the area wanting a unique meal experience!

Great place and atmosphere. We drive in from Illinois just to getaway. During the summer live music plays, Surrounded by the creek. Good strong drinks large portion of food, nice friendly staff

Been there several times in the past. This was the first time with my family. We sat outside on the upper deck. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and helpful. She came back regularly to check on us and see if we needed anything. Refreshing our beverages and never got the chance for them to be empty. We had the "Tackle Box" appetizer. Real Onions rings, waffle fries, fried cornbread and cheese curds. Literally in a tackle box. It sprinkled a little but the trees above up blocked most of it. Great place, I highly recommend it.

Food was great! Runner (Leah Sleep) was even better! She never failed to lighten our mood and top off our drinks. most polite young lady and a hard worker.

Absolutely love this place. Sorry to see it's closing. Amazing people, and incredible bar food. Love the old stone construction and back deck over the Wapsi. This will be sorely missed!
