TL;DR: compared to Safelite, Hometown is faster, cheaper, less expensive, and more thorough. Highly, highly recommend!

On Wednesday, 3/15/23, I shattered the rear window of my 2023 van. Whoops. I got an online quote from Safelite, then decided there must be somewhere in Benton county that can get me taken care of. I found this GMB and called, thinking there’s no way they’d have the replacement piece. The owner (I think) was quick to answer and did not have the glass in stock, and said chances were slim he could get anything soon enough to have me taken care of before the weekend but said he’d make some calls and try.

He was able to secure a window by the next evening and said he could come out as early as Friday morning to replace it for me.

Since I had the quote from Safelite already, I knew a general range to expect for pricing. He gave me his price which was slightly higher than Safelite’s replacement-only price.

Safelite couldn’t come to me until 8 days after the incident, and having toddlers and a full-time job, I couldn’t be without a vehicle that long. I gave Hometown the go-ahead without a second thought.

Pricing breakdown:
Safelight - $485 labor + $50 travel + $35 disposal + tax = $569 and some change. Could come to me 8 days after first contact (online).

Hometown - $520 + $10 unexpected propane charge + tax = $567 and some change. Could come to me 1.5 days after first contact.

Knowing that Hometown also needed to hear my garage for the glue to work, I’m sure Safelite would have added that charge.

I also believe that Safelite wouldn’t have been as thorough about glass removal from my back seat and tailgate.

After everything was done, the owner made sure to let me know they discovered a broken component during the installation. He fixed what he could, but part of it he could not. He let me know he didn’t expect the damaged component to cause any problems and that if I wanted to have it repaired, it could cost $1k to have done in a shop.

This was the most honest, thorough, professional company I have hired for anything in years. I highly, highly recommend Hometown.
