Park in Idaho Springs near Harold A. Anderson Park and Old Locomotive so you can walk under 1-70. There is a neat little trail to take you to the Water Wheel as well as the story with its history. It is so pretty with the waterfall next to it. It is larger than we expected!

We missed this area last time because it was on the other side of the highway from the Idaho springs main strip of shops. There is a path from the city hall building with the train in the back that goes under the overpass. There are 3 benches in front of the wheel for viewing. It's quite a peaceful spot. You will see water rafters coming through the creek water because there is an entry point for the rafting groups further down the walking path.

This is a neat landmark to see while in ID springs. Easy walk to it and fun information to read when you get to it. Very pretty while the waterfall is half frozen. The creek is nice for photos or just a stop to take a break and sit. Grab some coffee and go take a break here while looking at history.

Love the walk along the water wheel. Going here for Independence Day has become our tradition and I think it's easy from the photos to see why. Of course in years where there hasn't been rain, it's tough for them to put on this show, so it can be hit or miss depending on the year, but when they're doing the show, it's incredible. But going to the water wheel is great any time of year... love the ice waterfall that forms in winter too.

A well kept piece of history. I'm sure there are other ways to reach it, but I chose to wade across the river in 1-2ft deep water. The current isn't too strong so as long as your hands are free and you move slow you should be fine. Your feet will be a bit numb by the time you reach the other side.

Hey, it's a cool water wheel by a cool waterfall by a cool river by a cool mountain town. It's a 4 minute walk from the main parking lot and it's definitely worth it. Great hang.

Beautiful waterfall and water wheel. The path from the Idaho Springs public parking is well made and a joy to walk or bike on. Definitely worth a visit if you have stopped in Idaho Springs.

We didn’t realize you could walk over there until we walked to the Far East side of the parking lot, next to the train, near the I-70 bridge over Clear Creek.

Idaho Springs is a wonderful place to visit. It is close to the casinos in Black Hawk, rivers, and even zip lines. We stayed a Culimbine Inn. It was quiet and cozy. I would love to go back soon.

Wonderful place to visit. It had recently snowed so the water that froze on the river and down the water fall was amazing. Great views under the bridge and seen caves

Park in the lot and follow the sidewalk under the bridge. Super cool and quick hike. Amazing when it's frozen! You can see this on the interstate but if you want a closer look, it's definitely worth the stop.

I highly recommend checking this out if you're in town. It's a quick site to see you but it's definitely worth it. It's also cool to just relax by the river.

Small walkway leads under the interstate to a small park area. It was actually very relaxing despite being near the busy road.

Love this water wheel - it’s just for display and it’s a classic sight off the highway. Very fun!!

THE CHARLIE TAYLER WATERWHEEL
Charlie Tayler used this waterwheel to power a stamp mill at his gold mining operations on Ute Creek. Tayler.
who attributed his good health to the fact that he never kissed women or took baths, built the waterwheel in 1893.
It was moved to its present site in 1946, a gift to the People of Idaho Springs by his estate. It was restored during the spring and summer of 1988 by volunteers and private contributions. It was dedicated during
Gold Rush Days, July 16-17, 1988.

What a nice place to stop off at and stretch your legs if you have a long drive. We parked on the other side of the highway and walked under the underpass. Saw all of the people water rafting down the river, and got to see the little waterfall coming down. The wheel was so giant, and the benches were a great place to sit and watch it for a while. If we are back in the area again we will probably stop!
