On a short trip and unfortunately didn't have my board, waves were firing. Little sketchy to get in and the peak closest to the cliff could have some consequences . Nice to watch the surf from so close above

I really want to recommend this place to people who are not even interested in surfing. Just seeing is good.

An iconic Santa Cruz surf spot. Come to watch or ride the waves, stay for the killer sunsets, impromptu concerts, fire spinners, and more on the adjacent Lighthouse Field. Panoramic views of the Boardwalk and Monterey Bay. Simply must see Santa Cruz.

Beautiful place to watch the surfers and enjoy the views of the bay. Great coffee place nearby too.

The annual marketplace that's outdoor,( a three day event) with several vendors, including art, was on the lawn by the lighthouse, as well as both sides of it. steamer lane it was phenomenal ! Tons of surfers, and people out shopping. it was a beautiful day ,70° + ,off shore wind... couldn't have asked for a better day, especially in late November !

Always a gorgeous stop year-round. It's a super-local spot to surf, so it will be challenging to find a place to scoot in. Attend the surfing competition, it's alot of fun.

One of the best and easiest spots to watch surfing in SC. Go for a beautiful walk on West Cliff Drive.

While I'm partial to the east side, Steamer is a fabulous place to wave watch and people watch - little surfing museum is worth a walkthrough too!

Every day is different at Steamer Lane. Some days there are upwards of 60 surfers out there waiting for the waves. Fascinating!

Ode to surfers who have crossed over forevermore on the great wave.

Seeing the waves crash along the cliffs is mesmerizing and also terrifying. Watching fearless free spirits ride wave after wave is like a live action extreme sport movie.

But definitely not a sport for the faint of heart. Also unless very experienced, these shores are not for you. It can be deadly even for the veterans. Best to sign up for some lessons by the pier and where the breaks are less severe…
