Great sea food. Great service. Awesome selection of craft beers. Also great value fish and chips. I decided to splurge on lobster roll and it did not disappoint. A must go.

Best fish in a fish&chips I’ve ever had. Friendly service and fun decor. The fries and clam chowder were just okay but the fish was so good it didn’t matter. Super crispy batter and quality, tender fish. Can’t wait to come back.

Had a delicious takeout meal from The City Fish! It was hot, crispy and the sauces were perfect. Clam chowder here is also great 😄

Don't be fooled by the lack of luster this restaurant has, because the food and service here 5/5. Immediately when we entered we were greeted and directed on how to order. We decided to go with the small clam chowder and three piece fish chips. We assumed the fried fish would be regular sizes. Nope, they were three big hefty thick meaty fillets, stunned! Had I known the size we would have stuck with two pieces. Overall did not regret the decision since we enjoyed the leftovers. Also their tartar sauce is ridiculously good, I dipped my fries in them as well. But the star from my experience is the service of the staff and crew. I genuinely felt so welcomed here, not rushed at all, very accommodating, your employees were friendly to me and every person they interacted with. A fine dining experience serving delicious, hot, crispy fish & chips.

came here on a friday evening with my family. Parking was easy the city also gives you a free 90min if you park in the parking garage but we had no problem finding street parking. We were greeted right away and given menus. The selection is really big. They also have a happy hour from 3pm-6pm which was nice. We paid $60 for three meals and drinks (one of which was a beer) portions are really big and food comes out piping hot. The staff is super friendly. Overall my family will be coming back again we enjoyed ourselves so much.

One of the best fish and chips I’ve had in the bay area. The fish was fresh, chips not too greasy, and the staff were super friendly. The cheesy scallops were delicious too. So happy to found a local seafood place!

I’ve been to and reviewed the Cupertino location, I have the same great things to say about the Downtown SJ location. We ordered fried fish, shrimp, and scallops. I was especially impressed by the scallops, the texture was perfect. The fish and chips and shrimp were stellar as well, well-seasoned breading and not too greasy. I will be back, of course.

Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Ambiance: 3/5

The food is amazing! Some of the freshest, well prepared fish and great oysters and sides. The place looks like a fast food joint when you walk in the door, but the food is high class. Would definitely come back and recommend this place to friends.

The fella serving your food and drink is on it. The fish n’ chips n’ oysters I had were delicious. It’s not health food (the fried stuff) but that’s not why you walk through that door now is it?

One of my favorite local spots. I never have a bad experience. They always follow special directions I have. Like spicy ranch on the side. Nice portions and my meal is always fresh. Plus they are the kindest employees. Definitely try them out if your in down town.

I pass by this place every single day and wanted to try it but never had the time. So FINALLY I gave myself time to try it...So GOOD!

I'm so glad I cleared my schedule for this. The staff was wonderful. Super kind and caring. Very attentive to their customers. I never once had to ask for anything. They just seemed to read my mind. The food was to die for. The atmosphere is so cozy. I can see why its so eye catching. I got the prawns and fish combo.

I am not one to like fish and was mostly into the prawns but the food was so good I've changed my mind about fish entirely. Just so good! The fish and shrimp were deliciously hot out of the fryer. Crunchy and perfect in every way.

I have a birthday coming up and this is where I want to eat. Just yum.

The staff once again were exceptional and kind.

If you want to feel like norm coming into cheers with delicious food, look no further.

This is now going to be my spot.

I always want to entitle this small restaurant, 'Fish City.' Wellll, there's actually alot you can get here. It's generally never crowded, even though the number of tables, you could count on both hands.
If you want a taste of Santa Cruze, this is the place to come. And, I should know, there was a time - not long ago - I use to cross over the 'Summit,' every week, for nearly a year and a half, just to have dinner on the wharf at one of my favorite eating places - 'The Mira Mar,' since closed down (another one of the seemingly countless victims of what will someday probably be called, 'The Great Pandemic,' of the first quarter of the 21st. Century).
I've been to 'The City Fish,' countless times, (maybe also, to keep me in touch, as a distant reminder of my ventures to SantaCruz), and, yet . . why I've waited this long to do a review, absolutely behooves me to no end.
I often drop by here on my way to Eastridge, to grab a quick bite. Partly also, because it is very economical.
I usually get the one piece fish dinner, and, a glass of water. It's always $10.
How can you beat that price, for what includes a full plate of Alaskan Pollock, accompanied by french fries, and, enough cole slaw, to put at least some roughage in the old tummy. It always seems like an ample meal, and, I never seem to walk away hungrey.
However, I did bend the regimen a
little the last time I went, and added the scallops. As you know, the scallops always have that distinct texture and taste. They're really awesomely delicious, in my opinion . . it puts me - visionly - right there in Santa Cruz.
And that, of course, only happens when they're fresh. I've had scallops at some places - I won't mention any names here, of course, but that taste sooo mushy, they had to have come from the same place they found a woolly mammoth, 4½ million years ago - Seriously! But, you won't get that here at The City Fish. Not only does everything taste freshly caught, but, the service is top-notch - always expedient, and, friendly.
The place is always very clean, and, the ambience enhanced by a couple of flatscreens, to keep you up on how the games are going. The walls are nicely decorated with ocean-going decor, and, they even have a restroom, that is a bit of a challenge to find, but like the nose on your face, is closer by than you think.
The City Fish - located on the corner of 2nd & Santa Clara (or, more specifically 30 E. Santa Clara St.) - what you could call, the hub of San Jose activity.
The restaurant opens daily at 11 am.
and, closes at 9, a full 7 days a week. City Fish - surely a taste of Santa Cruz.

Excellent fried seafood, sandwiches, and grilled fish! Staff is also super nice and friendly, and prices are very reasonable. There are two TVs dedicated to whatever sports events are on, as well as a selection of alcoholic beverages. Great spot for the classic combination of fried food, beer, and sports!

Guy on the phone taking my door dash order was amazing! The lobster roll was bear, can never fail on a club sandwich, calamari was slam, and the garlic fries were medirodre but all in all 5/5!
