Lava Cap Winery

Visited on 11/21/2023 around 3:00 PM and there until close.
Upon arrival immediately had a friendly greeting with the hostess and a welcome glass of white wine.

We were lucky and had a seat available on the front with a perfect view.

John was our sommelier and he was an absolute pleasure. We had such great conversation with him. My husband and I did wine tastings with some cheese and crackers.
Each of the wines were delicious- not one that we did not like. It’s not often you come across a tasting where you love each wine.
It was also great the tasting fee would be waived if you decide to buy bottles, which is a wonderful deal. We did get two bottles of wine (their Syrah and Merlot- both so good!).

We did not know we would be catching one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Born and raised in Roseville, Placerville has always been a quick getaway to enjoy the peace, quiet and views. I’ve seen plenty of beautiful sunsets but something about this location, the grapevines and mountains surrounding the cotton candy skies was breathtaking.

The hospitality of this winery is what initially impressed us (after coming from Starfield- see my review there as well).
Overall, the hospitality, kind nature of all employees, wine, snacks and view, 10/10 would recommend. You will not be displeased; just disappointed you can’t stay there all day and night to soak up the wine and beauty.

The best winery in the area. Been there twice - high quality wine worth every penny, great service, and stunning views. Loved their event today rolling out their older wines. What a positive and creative way to engage the community and show appreciation to patrons. Thanks Lava Cap, I will be back!

A true gem in the area. Come during the week to enjoy the atmosphere to the full. I have been being my family for years and my mother has been a member for just as long. There isn’t a bad wine here in fact most you will enjoy and this is coming from someone that prefers distilleries and bourbons. Very little kid friendly and pet friendly.

Wonderful family and Winery. The wine itself is bright and refreshing due to the unique soil found on the mountain. If you’re looking for small bites they have a quaint selection of meats/cheeses/crackers. You can also bring your own picnic. Many fruit vendors can be found along the road to the winery to take with you as well!

One of my favorite wineries in the area. Great place to take in the view while enjoying a glass or two of wine. They also allow outside food in their large patio area, which have tables with umbrellas.

this was my first winery experience and I must say I liked it! Wine was excellent and I left with a bottle of their Zen. #loveit The kitty that was there was also a beauty to look at! I will definitely be back for more! Thank you to the nice lady behind the counter for the warm welcome!

This is an awesome winery. They have great views of the area, solid wine and lots of hummingbirds! They also had the best fall tree I saw all weekend!

Had a wonderful afternoon visit at Lava Cap today. Sarah was a great host. Even if the wine wasn't good, the view and atmosphere is amazing. But the wines are also good! The Old Vine Zin was our combined favorite. But my particular favorite was the Port. Even had a nice visit from the cat. As my wife and I are both geologists, this was our favorite place to visit for many reasons. Highly recommended!

Lava cap winery has great views, friendly staff and nice wines. We located the place while passing by towards lake Tahoe. This place had cheaper rates for wine testing than most others closer to freeway. It has scenic view of vineyards and you can see birds, humming birds and enjoy your wine.

We always enjoy ourselves here! The view from the lawn and deck are amazing, staff is super helpful and accommodating, oh the wine is great too!

Wifey and I walked in and Jennifer geeted us like old friends "thank you for making us feel like locals" the wines are all very good. What stood out was the rosè and the reserve zinfandel at least to us. Wifey said don't forget about the sauv blanc and the cab franc. All and all we're so glad that Ashley from Due Vigne recommended Lava Cap and the Placerville area to us. Cheers!

Always a wonderful experience. Lovely staff, great wine, amazing views...

This vineyard is in a gorgeous location. We came in for a tasting near the end of day and the staff was very helpful, friendly and fun to talk to. They offered great advice and the wine is delicious. I recommend getting a glass and watching the sun set on the patio.

Loved the winery! Staff was super knowledgeable. Cindy was super kind and passionate about the wine, giving us such a personal experience ! Highly recommend.

This was the cutest winery! The location is so beautiful. Service was fantastic and staff was very nice! We did the wine tastings and they were very generous and reasonably priced. It’s also dog friendly (:

What a relaxing place to wine taste and picnic, and such a great, friendly staff there!

This winery is very nice. The seating is outdoors so go when weather is nice. They have a deck that overlooks the vineyard and down into the valley. The wines are excellent. The day we went they had 6 wines (white and red) for tasting. John was our server and he was great. If you buy a bottle then they waive a single tasting fee. They also have some cheeses, crackers, and olives for sale to eat at your table.

It's a beautiful setting, family and kids friendly, with separated area for those who want to have quiet wine-tasting and separate picnic area where kids can roam freely. Wines are great, but you can feel mountain soil bitterness in them, so don't try to compare to Napa or Paso Robles wines - it's just different, and either you like it or not. We like it :)
