This trail is very steep!. Not dangerous but you better be prepared to climb out. Me I choose a 100 degree day and started at 4 pm. Yea not smart... Probably beautiful in the early spring when the grass is green and the flowers out but in the summer not much to see unless you make it all the way down to the river. The old river trail is cool. Original 49er hand stack for at least a mile. If you look closely you can see it on the other side of the river downstream.

If your into skipping rocks. This place is the thing of legends. There is a slate quarry one mile up river that has operated for over 100 years. instead of round rocks you have rounded smooth but extremely flat rocks. It was epic. 😃

another tip: the trail down is pretty well defined but there are a few offshoot trails that can get you turned around. who ever cut the trail tied pink ribbons on trees to help you on the most difficult section. Also there is a dam just up river that releases water almost every day. There is a schedule on line but I know from experience the water can and will come unexpected. Always always have an escape plan and DO NOT cross the river unless you know what your doing.

The sign has been torn down next to the gate. But some one taged the gate "Wild man hill trail" you will see the official sign lying in the grass. I saw online that I guess there may have been a boundary dispute as there is a house down there. I took the trail that didn't go near the house and had no problems
