Mac Wood's Dune Rides

Such a fun experience! Our family of four got the back row and it was the first time for all of us. I have a feeling the back row is the place to be to feel the most movement! It was a blast.

We got there around 10:40 on a Monday morning. We bought our tickets and they said they would call our name over the loudspeaker. There are plenty of places to sit and wait outside, plus a gift shop to look around in and public restrooms. We were told it would be about 20 minutes and it was. Not long at all considering the enormous crowd we saw when we pulled in. They are a well oiled machine and really get people in and out, so don't let a crowd put you off!

Have been coming to Silver Lake for several years and finally experienced Mac Woods Dune Ride. We usually head straight to the ORV Park but decided to try it out and did not disappoint! The ride itself was surprisingly exciting and very fun. Our driver Terrah was fantastic and a great driver. She kept the stops short and sweet, while sharing interesting information and history about the area that we hadn’t heard before. Ride is about 40 minutes long and you do get to stop on the beach and dip your feet into Lake Michigan, and she even offered to take family photos. Saw wildlife and beautiful views of Lake Michigan, Silver Lake, and both the walking and ORV dunes. Highly recommend for all ages.

It was a blast! Up and down steep, sandy dunes, fishtailing around curves much like a roller coaster ride. Hang onto your hats!
Amazing views from the high points. The driver made the ride more fun by joking with the passengers. Beautiful scenery included views of Silver Lake and Lake Michigan. A short stop at the beach allowed everyone to play in the sand and get their feet wet.
This was my second time at Mac Wood's Dune Rides, and I would go again!

This ride was so much fun.

The staff and operators got you checked in and we got loaded onto our ride in barely 15 minutes. It’s a very short ride to the dunes and then it’s off to going up and down and through the dunes.

The mini talks were informative about the origin of the dune as well as what it will happen next.

The kids and us loved going up and down, and they were lifting their arms and screaming with joy. They were aged six and 11.

The beach stop was nice and got us a chance to dip our toes in the water and walk around a bit as well as to see how the dune changes from place to place.

$25 adult $15 3-15years of age for a 35 to 40 minute adventure. Our driver was excellent and stopped several times along the way explaining how a dune died and how it continues to move over time. I would definitely do this again. If you go make not to miss the Little Sable lighthouse where you can climb to the top and get a great view of the area.

Decided to take family same day. able to get there and waited about 10 minutes only, they even had a holding pen for our dog. Even my older parents enjoyed the ride. The driver was great and made it fun.

We visited for our second time in June and could not be happier. We purchased our tickets upon arriving and had to wait maybe 10 min. Meanwhile, we went to the play area which has a playground for our son to play in while we waited. There are multiple buggies constantly going in and out, they fit maybe up to 15-20 ppl so the wait is not too bad during the week.

Our guide was incredible, he was full of knowledge and was hilarious!! The ride lasts maybe 40 minutes which included a quick 10 min stop at the lake. We all had a great time - the youngest in our group being 3 and the oldest 50. Great, fun time for everyone!

I have been to Silver Lake many times and never had an opportunity to go to Mac Wood's until now. Even though we went on a busy summer Saturday morning, we had no issues getting tickets and getting on a truck within an hour. Bill was our driver, and he was great, even when I asked important questions like: How many times have you flipped over? (None) Really enjoyed the ride and the spots where he gave some really interesting history/ information about the area. Highly recommend if it's your first or 100th time visiting silver lake. The best part is that it gives you a different view that you can't get from the north end of the park. Or anywhere else, really.

Roller coaster ride... Her orientation and holding the attention of the crowd was impeccable and we would do it again.

Lee "our driver" what is the best tour guide they don't make them like him anymore, very professional, informational and fun at the same time. All of the staff is friendly. Definitely visit this place and take a ride.

Want to experience the sand dunes without all the huff-n-puff? This dune buggy ride is the way to do it. Just walked in and gave them our group info and paid the fee. 10 minutes later we were off for about 45 minutes of excitement and information. Our tour guide/driver, Linda, was excellent. She kept our 6 grandkids entertained and enjoying the tour. The vehicles were modern and comfortable. Definitely a winner for our family.

Great ride! I will say it's a little more "hilly" and "roller-coaster-like" than we anticipated, but the scenery is beautiful and our driver was a hoot! We recommend!

What fun, the big dune buggies hold maybe 20 people. They take you over the dunes, lake Michigan and a close up view of Silver Lake. The drivers are knowledgeable and fun. Everyone on our ride had a lot of fun. PS, I've been riding the dunes since the mid 60s.

We were the last big group of the day but that didn’t stop our driver, Steve, from giving us an excellent tour of the dunes and their history. Steve was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. The dune rides in Saugatuck are great but Mac Woods in Silver Lake definitely takes the cake! 5/5 HIGHLY recommend!

Such a MUST DO, family experience when in the area! The ride was SO SMOOTH and the dune hills were so much fun! Jake our driver was super chill and answered all questions we threw at him. Until next time!

1st visiting any of the dunes and wow what a fun experience. Our driver/guide Joel was fun and shared a lot of history that I never knew. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a fun time on the dunes.

We took our grandkids and had an amazing experience! The driver was informative and she used humor to add to the experience. The dunes and lakes are beautiful.

We stopped at Mac Wood's after a school camping trip, and it was the perfect send off! All of the guides were amazing with the students, and were funny while also giving educational information. The ladies in the gift shop handled 80+ people shopping/checking out at once with speed and teamwork that was honestly amazing. We will definitely be back for more dune rides!

Mac Wood’s Dune Rides was a blast!! The ride/tour was recommended to us and we are so happy we did it! Our kids are 9-14yrs old and they loved it. Lee was our guide and he was so much fun! He had so many facts and stories to tell about the dunes, the history of the dunes, and MI. He gave us a few recommendations of other sites to see around Silver Lake and we enjoyed those too. The staff in the store are so helpful (we called with questions ahead of time) and friendly. The store has articles with the history of Mac Wood’s, Silver Lake, and fulgurites. They had real fulgurites on display too.

The dunes are breathe-taking to see, they are fun to zoom over, and the stop at Lake Michigan was unexpected. Mac Wood’s Dune Rides is a must do! Well worth the trip to Silver Lake and will be back if we make it to that part of MI again!

We had a group of 10, 5 adults, and 5 kids. We all loved it! Great experience, great price, great adventure for the kids. Our driver was awesome! Great memories of our Michigan trip...thank you so much!😊
