If you are into Texas history, this is definitely worth a visit. Find out who Ima Hogg was and what she did for people of Texas. Get insights into how cane sugar was made and how oil gushers changed the game. Allow at least 2 hours if you want to explore this place in depth.

It's the people...and the place. The experience is made richer by the people you "meet" while walking through the exhibits. They tell the history through the "voices" of those that were there. The large house is unfurnished, but open so you can fill the space with each Era from what you learned through the exhibits.

I rented the Ranger’s Cottage for two days for an adult birthday slumber party. It was fabulous! There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It sleeps 8 and all linens are provided. I highly recommend it for any small gathering. Alexa is very accommodating. ❤

Rich in history. Such an important site to visit in Texas. Kennedy is an amazing tour guide! Kennedy and the archeologist that was on-site helped to connect artifacts, the land and personal stories so that the experiences of our ancestors can be better understood.

I love going here! It's always picturesque and perfect for a picnic or a leisurely stroll. Take the tour through "the big house" and check out Mr. Hogg's bath. The upkeep to the property is unmatched and their community festivals are always very enjoyable.

Beautiful place to visit. People are so friendly. When they have vendors and food trucks they are awesome. Watch the calendar for upcoming events that you won't want to miss.

Varner-Hogg Plantation is a must see if you're looking for nice historical sites in Texas to visit. There is so much history here about this plantation and the wealth it produced for Brazoria County with the production of cotton and sugar cane. I highly recommend this place to visit in your travels.

Beautiful historical plantation. The site is well preserved by the state of Texas and has full amenities including multiple restrooms, gift shop and s picnic area. Some of the old buildings like the slave quarters were destroyed over time but the foundations still exist. The carriage house and main plantation house are well preserved. They have a great family discount. Please remember to avail it.

We Went to Ghosts on the Brazos event. Excellent actors that told short stories. My only issue was there was not a lot to see at this plantation. There's a couple ruins of a house and sugar mill. The main house is under renovation for an unknown time frame.

Varner is great due to the historical significance it has to our area and retelling of said history, but I personally love it for the beauty it holds and event planning! In 2018 my husband, parents and I were planning my husband and my October wedding here. They were incredibly accommodating and surprisingly affordable! The century old trees, the lovely (and very well maintained) mansion (and the other houses as well), just the entirety of the grounds at varner, are magical. We were going to be given the ENTIRE day before hand to set up (most venues give you a few hours, if that), dang near free-range to do whatever regarding decorations (just no hurting the mansion-screws/nails, and nothing penetrating the lawn too deep as it IS a historic site and we could potentially damage artifacts). We were given the opportunity to have our engagement photos taken there, no charge. We were also allowed to rent one of the houses to stay in that night for a small fee, but could use it to get ready in day of the wedding (the house/cottage is VERY well taken care of, extremely cute!). Unfortunately a week before our wedding we had that week long torrential downpour and changed venues last minute. I can't say whether it would have been amazing day/night of, but everything leading up to our magical day was wonderful! Honestly you can't beat the views, its simply beautiful and photographs phenomenally! I know I'll treasure my engagement photos forever. I'd love to get back out there for some family photos including our new baby! 💕
Visiting is wonderful and you'll learn an incredible amount, but when it comes to event planning, 👌, top notch!
If you're a bride (or groom, or related to either) check out varner for your events, or even just your photo sessions! You certainly won't regret it! If you're creative enough (or hire a great wedding planner) you can plan for an exquisite outdoor event and have wonderfully informative people in the office to help you out!

We have taken our college history students here multiple times -- it is such an important site for them to be aware of. Our last tour was given by Kennedy, and it was one of the most informative tours we've had there. She was a great guide! All of our students were able to get their questions answered and learned a great deal. Highly recommend!

Well preserved Texas historic site. The state does a great job of maintaining this. The small museum is in great condition in the visitor center as well as the one in the building a few doors down. Highly reccomend getting the map and advice from the visitor center about how to plan your visit. Wear good walking shoes for your visit and bring a water bottle and sack lunch. It's a gorgeous plantation to visit.

We did the guided tour... awesomesauce! My kids loved this place! We were able to combine nature study, science and history all in one day! If you homeschool this is a must see field trip...we had the whole place to ourselves! I would love to see this place packed during the school year with homeschoolers of all ages! Even the gift shop was amazing I can't get my 13 year old to put down his jacks set! Thank you to the gentleman in the gift shop...so patience kind and friendly...my kids loved the Jacob's ladder as well...they have been trying to make them every since lol. Hands down the most educational gift shop I have every seen in my 15 years of traveling with the Marine corps and the kids....keep it up! I give this place 10 🌟...oh and the view for that front porch.... I can't help but wish you opened before sunset... I would drive back just to have a cup of coffee with the breath taking view of the pecan orchards.... I am so glad I added this to my Texas bucket list!!!!

Visiting the plantation was a great start to our spring break. Kennedy toured us around the museum and into the plantations home. Providing excellent history and informative facts. I can’t wait to visit after the renovation in about 2 years.
