My son came from a private school back ground, entering a public school where he didn't know anyone, we was blessed to have had such a positive experience here and as a mother I have been overly impressed with RIS. His Homeroom teacher Mrs. Walker has been more than a pleasure. The entire school system from the receptionist, the principal, the PE coach, the teachers and all the way to the lunch ladies have been top notch.

There are so many things to be said about how bad this school really is. I went to this school for two years. It was easily the worst school I've been to.
While I was there, I was bullied a lot. I was made fun of for the way I dressed. Good students start with good parents. These parents raised their kids to be judgemental. I remember being called mean names just because I was underprivileged. Good parents would teach their kids to see past the way one dresses.
I had a teacher that was very mean. I will not say her name, but she made me cry several times. She would yell at the class. She would also make us copy questions and answers out of a workbook. I do understand that she couldn't make copies however, the school needed to provide her with more copies instead of wasting money on stuff we don't need.
When I was there, there were flat screen TV's at the end of every hall way. They also had a high tech morning announcement TV studio. If they could afford that, surely they could spare some to give their poor teachers enough to make copies.
A huge problem I remember having was the quality of the lunches. On multiple occasions, I witnessed mold and toenails in children's food. The cafeteria had large murals with the heavily implemented "Seven Habits" they shoved down our throats. They were well painted but, they needed to spend more money on the food so that children can eat without getting sick.
There are two good things that I got out of this school. My parents got a divorce while I was here and the counsler reached out to me. She was very kind and put me in a group of kids that were having similar problems. The gifted program was phenomenal. I don't know if they've changed since I was there but if they haven't and you're kid is gifted, make sure they're going to gifted class. Mrs.Faith and Mrs.Murdock were very kind. They also taught me many things.
If you are considering moving to Huntsville, I recommend Mountain Gap or Challenger. They are way better than Riverton. There is bullying at every school however, I was a lot happier at Mountain Gap. People are less racist and homophobic in the city.

Bullying and cursing is a big problem and nothing is being done about it. The school has an obsession with the seven habits (a business book) and push it to be a way of life. The school goes so far to push these they cause the students to memorize and tell others about them. The teachers were great while the principal was awful.

I had a teacher ( not stating her name) and when my class would talk she would start writing down what we said. She would not answer our questions but insted she would ignore us.
