Stayed 4 nights in mid September. We loved the place. Campsites were spacious, lots of trees, each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Many sites are full hook up, lots of tent only sites. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. The owner is interesting and extremely nice. A short walk across the road is Lake Superior and a nice sandy beach. If in the area we would definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay here for 7 days. The sites are great with lots of trees for shade. Brewery was also a great addition to our stay. This is a very unique campground but in a good way. Lots of interesting buildings and history. The owners are truly very nice and down to earth people.

This is a wonderful campground! I’d say it is definitely rustic so don’t expect it to be like a fancy RV park or KOA. But there are clean bathrooms & showers, a game room, and also a brewery open a couple hours a night. It’s woodsy, so there’s privacy from one another. It’s across street from roadside park on the Lake, so good for sunset viewing. (Have to cross highway though). And it’s a very quick drive to downtown Marquette! You can tell the owner puts a lot of love into the place. We will be back.

So me, and one of my good friends came here last minute it was probably around six or 7 PM by the time we were able to find a campground that suited us and if you’re looking for something more rustic and family owned, this is a place to go! The owner seemed really kind, and the campsites were good! Personally, I like seclusion, and it didn’t feel like I was crowded there. We had our own space, and the manager/owner even talked us, through which campsites would be the best if we wanted to be away from other campers. Each campsite has a fire pit and grill and an electrical hook up. It was my first time visiting but if I ever go back up to the UPA, most definitely will always go to this campground hands down! For me, it was a good escape from the city life and made me feel like I was back in my roots. They also do have bathrooms and showers. Don’t give me wrong. You are out in the boondocks so it’s not exactly luxury but they do have very good hot running water. I would just recommend bringing flip-flops or crocs while you’re in the showers. Honestly that’s just the sanitary thing to do anyway. Directly across the road from the campground is actually the coast of Lake superior and you can even go down there and have a fire on the beach or just have a beach day! With my experience and traveling, I would say, this place is great! Not to mention it is very close to a lot of beautiful scenery and landmarks, especially hiking trails and waterfalls within the area so it’s kind of perfect or at least it was for me and my friend! All in all I have no complain and I will always go back !

Very rustic camp site. We were just tent camping but the whole site was pretty wooded. The owners knew who we were when I walked up to check in and were very friendly. It is just outside of marquette and right across from lake superior. We will definitely be staying here again

An eclectic and fun campground that I recommend you give a try.

Jeffery, the owner, has run this campground for the past 50 years. He built and maintains the structures and yard art that you'll see around the main buildings. The Red Pine Brewery, a beer sampling room, is a great example of structured that Jeffery built. It's a wonderful spot to meet fellow campers from across the globe and sample their local brew. (Its open from 7pm to 9pm.) I was amazed at how many new acquaintances that I made within a few hours of arriving.

The campground makes a nod to the National Park system. The office is referred to as the Ranger Headquarters. The sites are nestled in around the trees like you would see in national park campgrounds. Just that there are 50 amp full hookup sites. The roads and site pads are a thin levrl of gravel over dirt. Typical if what I see a lot of in upper Michigan and the arrowhead of Minnesota.

The campground is old, so be prepared for well used picnic tables and fire pits. The laundry room and bathrooms are old, BUT are well maintained and clean.

COVID and some health issues resulted in some poor reviews in the past years. Jeffrey's daughter and son inlaw have joined the team to help out. And things appeared to be running quite smoothly.

The location is convenient to both Marquette and Munising. There is beach access at a state park location right across the road from the campground.

We canceled our reservation at munising tourist park for a week and moved to this campground/RV park due to their flexibility and friendliness! They all were such pleasant people, we felt so welcomed at their park. The whole atmosphere has a laid back, rustic camping vibe. We tent camped with our children and had plenty of room. We enjoyed biking through the park, checking out the bird sanctuary, and walking over to the beach access. There are many places to visit nearby including pictured rocks, waterfalls, beaches, and Marquette. We enjoyed spending time in the lodge on the couple rainy days and there was lots of tree coverage. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and always had good music playing! The entire family all seemed to pitch in to run the facility, they were the cherry on top of this beautiful quiet place to stay!

We would absolutely stay here again. We spent 5 days at Gitche Gumee RV Park. It was nice and quiet. We used the bathhouse and found it to be clean. It is the Iron belt and there is iron in the water every where in this area. Close to Marquette, we loved the downtown area. The campground is right across from sandy beach access on Lake Superior.

We traveled from Oklahoma and spent 8 wonderful days at Gitche Gumee. We had the 1st spot on the left when you enter. We had a water view the whole time! Most of the spots have plenty of shade trees. Restrooms and showers were decent. They have a brewery on site. The owner was easy to work with and friendly. A gem of a place with lots of quiet.

We have stayed at Gitche Gumee every time we vacation in the UP, with our first visit nearly 15 years ago. Ranger Jeff is a truly unique individual with a wealth of kindness and generosity. Values that he has passed on to his lovely daughter, Crystal, who now runs the campground.

Our experience has always been great, but this visit was extra special. There is nothing like sitting around a campsite surrounded by red pines, grilling burgers, enjoying a campfire, and this time, having a tasty Stout at the new Red Pines Brewery!

The exceptional beauty of this campground makes it a special place to stay and forget about the hectic demands of the world for a while. Almost like going back in time to a place where you can enjoy nature without all the rush and craziness of daily life. And Marquette is a great location for taking day trips along the Lake Superior coast. We enjoyed visits to Munising for pasties, Copper Harbor for great views of the lake and a few souvenirs, and even played a few slots at the nearby Casino.

If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the uniqueness of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this is where you need to be.

We love this place. We recently made a quick weekend trip up there to see our 19 yr old (surprise her with a new phone) and stayed here. Even for a quick one night stop it was perfect. We were so sad we didn’t get a chance to say hi to Jeff, but his kiddo is doing a great job! Well done, sister! Last year we stayed for 10 days and our 12 yr old wanted to make that our yearly vacation. Unfortunately, I will be having 2 big surgeries soon and we won’t be able to go camping… trust me, I’m trying to talk the family into it anyway. These are good ppl who work hard and give a great experience. Campsites are great size with bonfire pits. The woodwork and carvings all around is absolutely amazing. Impressive craftsmanship.

Y’all are doing great! Keep up the good hard work and I can’t say enough good about this campground. Rustic. Not primitive. Iron stains, but not dirty. (Duh, it’s iron country!) Hopefully, I can do some sweet talking and we’ll get to see you again this year.

My wife, two young children and I stayed here for a very long weekend and we loved every bit of it. The owners where very helpful on bringing us to our site and making sure we had everything we needed and offered areas to go explore and sight see. Our only drawbacks would be the iron in the water “but it’s the iron belt, just grab some iron out cleaner when you get back home” and the lack of a playground for the kids, but going to the beach across 28 made up for it! Very quiet, friendly atmosphere and our site easily fit our big 5th wheel. We will definitely be back

When my husband and I decided to go camping we actually wanted to "camp." This place offers just that. It is in a fantastic location and has plenty of trees for shade. The other reviews are honest when they talk about the shower/bathroom facilities. However, there is running water, and it's totally fine. I loved it here! I loved the owner. The campground was charming. Is it expertly manicured? No. But it allows you to feel as if you are immersed in nature with a few more amenities that helps with the ease of living. I think people who are expecting anything more should probably not camp in the first place. I suggest everyone who loves nature, the beauty of the earth and is thankful to be living to camp here! All you have to do is kick back, breathe deep, and smile!

Unbelievable! Holy smokes! Coolest campground we have ever stayed at, hands down. The level of hospitality is unrivaled. They even have their own brewery! Each site has electric and water!!! Great people, great vibes, great views. Party on, Wayne! 🍻

Awesome campground that's not trying to be anything it isn't. We found the staff to be very friendly and professional. Cute campsites with a decent amount of space in between them. This campground has a lot of charm, the owner is sort of a mad genius artist type so there's lots of great folk art and handmade everything. I'd definitely camp there again.

Had an amazing wholesome family weekend at this place. The neighboring campsites were friendly. Our site was huge and fit 4 large tents comfortably. The dredge fire pit was an awesome touch. It made cooking over the fire easy. The bathrooms/showers were cleaned and restocked daily with TP and soap. They need to get rid of the reusable hand towels. We had a couple rainy evenings but we went up to their new pub and had a great time playing cards at the big lumber tables and there are 2 pool tables as well. The lake was right across the street from our campsite and recently they’ve done some landscaping so there’s grass, picnic tables and bbq grills up top and a steep-ish ramp down to the water. We had a beach fire and the stars were incredible. 45min to pictured rocks 25-30min to black rocks and Marquette which is the cutest town. All around fantastic time. Jeff the owner is friendly and his son runs the bar and was nice as well!

Our first time to this campground and we all Absolutely Loved our stay here!! The campground was awsome. Large secluded wooded site with full hookup and cable. Directly across the road was beautiful sandy beach area of Lake Superior. Campground owner was simply wonderful and so friendly. Always made sure you were happy and enjoying your stay! You have guaranteed return campers every year now! We will be booking our stay again here for our Fall return.

It’s a great place to find peace within the nature. We stayed here for 3 night and love it. We were kind of hesitate after reading the reviews. However we glad we made the decision. The camp is across the street from the lake with public access where you can watch sunset. This place a kinda far from the town and stores so get your stuffs ready before you come. This place belong to an elderly man. He takes care of the camp by himself so bare with him a little bit :)

Don’t be swayed by all these clueless folks with unrealistic expectations who are leaving poor reviews. Some people will find a reason to complain about anything. This is an awesome campsite with amazing and caring ownership. The facilities are spacious with perfectly reasonable bathrooms and showers - if you’re not satisfied then camping’s not your thing, princess. Don’t know many other campgrounds that have a bar onsite. Will def be back.
