What more need be said? The prices are reasonable and the portions are beyond fair.
The beer garden, even with the bustle of Rockford traffic, is quaint and quite enjoyable. The staff, Kat, is very polite, accommodating, and knowledgable. This is a place that I strongly suggest everyone visit.

Servers are very friendly. 'Cat' is great. Food is authentic and delish. Beer cheese is the answer to all problems. Their beer is also tasty. Downstairs is quirky.

This place is such a gem! Great food, great atmosphere for working/studying during the day time. Definitely planning to return for dinner.

Update: we returned for dinner at the outdoor beer garden portion of the restaurant, which is dog friendly. Food was delicious and servers were attentive. Try the Pork Schnitzel or the Hungarian sausage.

The food is phenomenal. Coffee is amazing, Best latte in town! At this point I can say I have tasted a little bit of every everything in the menu 😎🍺. The place is great, the staff is awesome! By far, the best Salmon I ever had. Best burger too.

I use to go to this place 5 years ago and it is a very comfortable to enjoy your food and relax. I love the brat burgers and fries. And Their beef stroganoff with soup. At the time I use to dine in after my daily walk. But then a few years later I had to move someplace else and since then I really miss coming here. And I read the news article about them closing permanently due to the lack of support if I am not mistaken. And hopefully it isn't true. Because I Love everything about it this historic restaurant. And I was wondering if they can start serving pizzas and pasta dishes because I believe most likely it can happened and hopefully some day if I make my way from across town just to catch them on a decent time it will be Great. But other than that I hope they can maintain to stay open. And like I said I still have hope in them to bounce back...

Very nice experience. The food was delicious and German. There were also many choices on the menu for those looking for vegetarian options. The breakfast menu looks excellent!

Have been back to this place a number of times. Everything I have tried has been very good. Recently tried the traditional German sauerbraten entrée and it was delicious. Cocktail drinkers will like the mixing. Reasonably priced with great service. This is a complete rehab of the previous restaurant with the same name. The new owners put a lot of effort into the relaunch. During warmer weather we like to eat out on the large patio.

Great breakfast items, lattes, and coffee! Accommodating staff too!

We've enjoyed this unique restaurant for over 30 years. Recently we arrived near closing time, but were welcomed warmly and served a delightful meal with no rush or concern for the late hour. Having a friendly and locally-owned place where customers are treated kindly is a great asset. The decor and menu are pleasant and not duplicated elsewhere. Highly recommended for a nice change of pace.

Outstanding new menu! We tried the Cheddarwurst, Little Gem Salad, and Pork Schnitzel with spaetzle. All were delicious (huge servings!), and we look forward to exploring new menu offerings like the veggie burger and Doner Kebab. The drink selection, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is innovative and interesting. Bravo!

Very homey feeling resteraunt.

My wife and I absolutely loved the variety of sausages and the potatoes lived up to the hype. They serve sourkrout and the best mustard! The beer is great, the atmosphere and music are excellently done.

If you want a German dining experience than look no further.

I love finding German restaurants when I’m in a new town on business. Der Rathskeller did not disappoint! Rouladen was almost as good as my dad’s which is saying a lot, the salad with warm bacon dressing was so tasty, and the beer flight was wonderful. We enjoyed our meal from the patio. Service and staff was great. Will definitely return if I’m ever back in Rockford!

It's been a very long time since I've went to Der Rathskeller and I barely remember it I was so young, so it was in essence like my first time there. We sat in the basement which was cozy. I had the pork shank and schwine special and the hubby had a selection of sausages. Everything was delicious! I will definitely go back for the pork shank again! I wish they had a better selection of wines and hard ciders and you could tell that there was an issue between staff because another waitress, that wasn't ours, tried to steal the tip from our waitress and management didn't seem to care much.

This place is a real classic German restaurant. The menu could do with a few more vegetables, but if you like sausage and potatoes, you can't go wrong. The ambience inside is very gemütlich (homey) and the Biergarten is a great place to spend an afternoon. The beer selection features a small but well chosen variety of German beers. I would highly recommend this place for kids, groups, dates, and families.

Very friendly staff. The food was amazing and very good. The sausage plater is a appetizer. The bone meat picture is the pork shank its crispy on the outside but tender in the inside with a side of potatoes. Then last and not least the beef stroganoff.

We we're visiting from out of town and went here by recommendation of the AirBnB host. We we're glad we went! The bacon dressing on the salads was delicious, as was the house soup. We shared our dinner, the portions are large! Service was friendly and attentive. If we are back in town, we will come back!

Absolutely love this place the food and beer are really really good. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming plus having the outside beer garden where you can sit and enjoy a nice evening is a fantastic addition to this restaurant.

First time ever coming here. Tried the Jagerschnitzel.. Holy cow it was Amazing! One of the best dishes I've ever had! Paired great with the French toast beer! I will certainly be back!

We came in after the WWII re-enactment in Rockford and had the best German food I’ve ever tasted. The waiters were awesome, had a great chat with them. Hoping to come back next year with more friends!
