Gaslight Kitchen Asian Cuisine

Food: you have Chinese-American restaurants in every town, but you rarely have really good ones. Gaslight is one of the really good ones.

The dumplings were not only great, but seem like such a rarity these days.

Orange chicken came recommended so we gave that a try along with tofi vegetable stir fry. Not disappointed, orange sauce was amazing with a very deep citrus flavor and even little bits of peel in it was almost like candy. Vegetables in the stir fry were perfectly cooked, still having some crunchiness and not the typical mush.

Service was very good, but a little odd for dining in. They gave us menus, let us pick our seats, but then had us come up to the bar to order. We later found out it was due to a constant lack of staff. Everyone was very nice, food came out fairly quickly with a perfect pause between our appetizers and mains.

The inside is a little sparse. Straight back wooden chairs. Once people started filling the place it got a bit loud.

Not copy & paste Asian food. More authentic recipes and ingredients than you'll find at Americanized places.
I had the variety appetizer (for 2), and some of the items were a bit dry, almost like they sat out. The beef and shrimp cakes were delicious though.

This is truly the best Asian restaurant I have been to! I got their dine in special and I was expecting it to be a smaller portion but no, the plate of food was huge! When I first came in I didn't know what to order so I just decided I was in the mood for soup and some Lo Mein and a couple of Crab Rangoons and an Egg Roll.

The First thing I was offered was tea. It was a very traditional tea and was unsweetened, but they provided sugar so I added one packet and it was fine. They also left me a tea kettle so they didn't have to come back to pour more tea.

The Egg Drop Soup was full of rich flavors and made me feel at ease. The flavor just melts in your mouth and there was a light, not overwhelming egg taste.

The Lo Mein was so delicious! I got the Vegetable Lo Mein was flavorful and loaded with baby corn, beans, carrots, mushrooms, and a couple of other vegetables. The sauce was flavorful but there wasn't an overwhelming amount of it, which is good in my opinion.

The Crab Rangoon and the Egg Roll were excellent! The cheese was just right and I didn't taste a fishy seafood flavor.

The staff were patient, friendly, and overall great! They came back a few times to check on me, but they didn't come back too often or too little. It was just the right amount of service.

Atmosphere was great! The music was loud enough to hear it and I loved all of the natural light! They even have some plugs to charge devices. They give you an option to use chopsticks as well. Overall great atmosphere!

Overall, if you are looking for an affordable yet very good place to eat Asian food, this is the place!

Update: I recently have gone back and the food is still very delicious and the atmosphere is still great! Also the staff are very friendly!

Absolutely great. Unfortunately, we have struggled to find a high quality Chinese restaurant anywhere in the area. Using google maps to track down this establishment; it was fantastic. The owner spent time with us conversing and even showed us the proper way to roll mushu pork, in the pancake, with plum sauce. Everything was fresh and high quality. Service was excellent. We even laughed that restroom could be in a hospital; which says a lot about how a business is managed. I hope the best for Mr. Ly. The pride of ownership and attention to quality was evident. We will be back; worth the drive from Grand Haven.

A cozy restaurant with small town charm! We were immediately greeted at the door with smiling faces and the service was amazing from start to finish. The food tasted fresh and came out quickly, piping hot! Be sure to get the Bali Bali beef!! All of it was excellent and we will be back!

We moved here about 2 years ago. Our goal was to try local restaurants and nail down those “Goto” spots! We were often given poor advice from locals with bad taste in food. We decided to check on google to find a local Asian cuisine with amazing food! We did JUST THAT. With such fantastic reviews already, we knew we had to try!

At this time, Covid was still at a high and most places were take-out only. We didn’t want to sacrifice the quality of our meal by ordering take-out, but after reading the reviews, we would have been silly not to! The food, even traveling 15min home, was undeniably delicious. 🤤

We went ahead and sat inside the VERY SECOND they re-opened for dine-in! The service was TOP-TIER from start to finish! It started a whole routine. We began visiting almost twice a week! We got so close to the family, we held every birthday celebration here inviting our family from out of town. Even our sons 4th bday. It’s become our tradition now. 🧡

We became “”victims”” of routine with our fav dishes! 😋 We order the “Bali Bali Beef” and “Crab Cheese” appetizers, even our toddler loves them! Our son also LOVES the “Veggie Lo Mein” as his entree! My favorite is the “Orange Chicken.” When they told me it took two days to develop their PERFECT AUTHENTIC orange sauce from scratch, I said “say no more.” 😂👏 I’LL TAKE IT! My boyfriend always tries something new! He says you can’t go wrong with the “Singapore Noodles”

We will continue to support Gaslight as It is our absolute favorite Grand Rapids Restaurant. If you’re looking for authentic Asian cuisine, family atmosphere, and a warm welcome.. I HIGHLY suggest you check them out! You don’t want to regret it, I don’t believe there’s a comparable restaurant. 10/10 every single time, thank you! 💕

The best Asian food I’ve had perhaps ever and I’m from New York where we have incredible Asian restaurants!

The food is gourmet quality but the prices are extremely reasonable.

The servers are friendly and top notch and the atmosphere is very clean and inviting!

We found it after going to Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids and it made for the perfect end to a wonderful day!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I will never go to another place for orange chicken and crab cheese! Family that owns it is amazing and the food is absolutely delicious.

This is THE best Asian cuisine in town. I have dined at every restaurant in town seeking the best bowl of PHO! This location blows the rest out of the water. The family environment and care that goes into this restaurant is above and beyond. I am so grateful to be able to have such high-quality food and ingredients available here. I cannot say thank you, enough.

Great quality, the sauces have depth and the veggies are fresh. They will sub tofu for meat in most dishes! And those steamed dumplings are amazing ✨

I love their soups so much, especially with the winters we have.The lettuce wraps and dumplings are wonderful appetizers and they put care into every dish/drink they make. My bf had pepper beef and Mongolian beef and they're both delicious

The food is great and the staff is friendly. My fiance said they serve the best egg drop soup he has ever had. We are also hooked on the crab cheese appetizer and the dumplings. The General T'sos chicken as well. This is now one of our favorite restaurants!

I have been told I have a problem with how much I like Chinese…. Every time I am in a city I have to try as many Chinese places as I can…..this place is my new top spot. Above any place I’ve tried in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw, Jackson… great service, great atmosphere, everything is fresh, you get what you pay for. Hunan shrimp was phenomenal, sesame chicken delicious, crab rangoons weren’t sweet so they were perfect, egg drop soup had shrimp peas mushrooms in it and made it both unique and delicious

I feel asleep on the bus headed home, missing my stop. I woke up and discovered I missed my stop wanted to get back to Boston Street, but with a 40 minute wait for the next bus, I decided to try out a new Restaurant and today I ended up here. I tried out a Chinese beer import I'd never had before called "TsingTao" and it was a great compliment to my Kung Pao dish. I reached for my wallet to discover it wasn't there(left on the bus) but luckily I had a card in my front pocket which saved the day. I ended up returning to the bus I lost my wallet on and the driver returned my wallet. So happy for honest people! I visited Gaslight Kitchen for a Saturday lunch and it was nice. The service was good and the food was comparable to other excellent asian restaurants. We had the spicy wontons, vegetable moo shu, and spicy bean curd. The atmosphere is modern casual and very clean. I am surprised at how well the rest rooms are kept. The staff are very friendly and I enjoyed the experience. As always, the food is the most important grade and they get high marks.

After visiting Frederick Meijer Garden, we came here for the first time and it was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly.

Went there yesterday with my mom and my brothers and everything was phenomenal!!! Friendly staff who were extremely accommodating to all of us but especially my brother who ordered food to take back to his house in Ohio. The food was absolutely delicious and I will definitely be coming back. Also the coffee there is so good, definitely recommend

The food here... legit! They have a full bar, which I was not expecting, but their drinks were good. A friend suggested we eat here and honestly, had he not, it isn't a place we would randomly wander into. That being said, what a little gem.

There are not many places in Grand Rapids that you can get great Asian food. Many places attempt, but Gaslight Kitchen conquers it. Their flavor is very fresh, bold and you feel good after eating. My family and I have been here several times and each time it gets better. Excellent food, great taste and very very good quality. I highly recommend the Pho during the weekends. It's Northern Pho so the broth is savory and clean as it's made with real bone broth and not full of sugar. Here is what we last ordered and it's amazing! The owners are also very very friendly and came out to thank us for visiting.

Awesome spot, food was incredibly fast, the younger guy working was 25x better than any waiter I had at any restaurant in the last year. Will 100% go out of our way to come back.
