SMHC Emergency Department

I brought my son here while he was having a mental health crisis. I've never been more impressed with an emergency room. They treated both of us with dignity and respect and were some of the kindest, most compassionate hospital staff I've ever encountered.

I went to the ER for the worst trauma in my life, I got mauled, and they didn't even ask if I wanted to talk to a trauma counselor. I needed internal stitches and they used a mix of regular and desolving stitches, but they didn't inform anyone, so the other doctors didn't know to make sure that they took them out at the right time.

Dr Hamilton is very irresponsible in my opinion. He does not know what Lyme disease symptoms are & attempted to say the CDC is wrong. I have lived in Maine my whole life, 49 years. I have seen multiple friends go through undiagnosed Lyme disease. They suffer and will always suffer because of it. There seems to be a common theme among doctors to accuse patients of being crazy or making up symptoms when in fact they're very sick from Lyme disease or other tick-borne diseases. He is absolutely dangerous if he does not educate himself on all tick-borne diseases. He was very rude & disrespectful but I put him back in his place. I'm a mama bear and I will not have anyone messing with my children. He attempted to tell my adult daughter that she was just crazy and needed a psych evaluation. She actually has two tick borne diseases! The nerve of some people I tell you is unnerving knowing they are in charge of an entire emergency room!!

First time waited 5 hours for treatment at the ER with nonstop throwing up the entire time. Overall time there was over 7 hours. Second time have been waiting for over 3 hours just for them to do some blood work (excessive blood loss during miscarriage) and to contact an OBGYM. Doctors seem good, nurses and staff are caring. But time management is horrible, even with nearly no other patients in the ER.

The Emergency Room takes little to no precautions to properly separate possible COVID-19 patients and other patients in the waiting area. The hospital also disregards higher risk patients and doesn’t allow them to wait in a car, away from other patients.

Go anywhere else! 2 and a half hours waiting in the waiting room, not even put in a room yet! A poor old woman walked out crying saying she'd been there for 3 hours and wasn't even roomed either so she left. We decided to leave too and go to another hospital. Never again will I go there. Just terrible.

I give this hospital a 0. I have contacted both channel 8 and 13 in Maine and now is the time to stand together against this hospital.

Terrible ED. Just cuz they changed names does not mean they are any better.
