I don't write reviews but this gem of South Carolina deserves it. If you like authentic german make this place a must. I personally loved the atmosphere and if I lived locally I would live and eat here. Best german potato salad ever! Amazing schnitzel!

Authentic German cook. List of different meat schnitzels. Pork was popular . German potato salad or creamed potatoes with green onion and gravy . Picked cabbage with every meal. Wine limited but was fine.

Great food, better service, all wrapped up in a cozy restaurant in Prosperity which was a treat in itself. Have meant to come here for the last 5 years since I found out about it, will definitely not be waiting that long to come back.

What a great experience! Wendy is an outstanding Chef, and a wonderful person. Don't get in any hurry, and enjoy the atmosphere. Absolutely, the best German dinner I have ever had. I had Wiener Schnitzel and my wife had the Schnitzel. Both were excellent. Great flavor, and not too heavy. It is worth the drive.

The best and authentic German food ever! Small, quaint atmosphere. This isn't the place for a quick meal. Everything is made to order. It can take several hours to finish the 3 course meal. Ms. Wendy, the owner, is a joy to be around and sure knows how to prepare excellent meals. Reservations are usually required because the restaurant can accommodate about 40 people.

We had an amazing experience! We'd had it in mind for a long time, and had the perfect opportunity to come for a friend's birthday. The food was excellent and Ms. Wendy was a fabulous Hostess! Be prepared...it's not a fast meal and food is prepared to order, so plan to come and enjoy a relaxing evening with your dinner companions. We will definitely be back!

Best German restaurant I've ever been to. It really feels like you've stepped into a different country! And the entertainment is always great....aka Miss Wendy. Sure puts her heart and soul into her food... And just FYI, the owner IS the chef. She's German, she's lovely and the food and atmosphere is nothing like anywhere else. :) Love Gasthaus Zur Elli!

We read the reviews and prepared ourselves to wait for the food... it came out in a timely manner, was piping hot and absolutely delicious!! The server was fantastic as well I believe her name was Holly. The chef had a wonderful personality and had us in stitches! The whole experience eas enjoyable.

Come here for the great food and most importantly the atmosphere. This is entertainment and dinner at the same time. It is like a traditional German inn where in you could be sitting with a random other party.

Don't fret though, I've always had a good experienced and have met new interesting people. The owner, Wendy, is eccentric and amazing. She always makes your visit entertaining.

With out a doubt, one of the best dining experiences of my life. I have been to Germany and this is by far the best German food that you can get in America. With great prices, great beer and food, and of course the wonderful Miss Wendy to keep you entertained the entire time, it is a evening you will never forget.

Love the little place. Better make reservations because it is pretty popular. Place is run by a German lady named Elli and just be for warned she is a REAL person with no filter so if you are a snowflake that is easily offended then you might want to go to McDonald's but if you are open minded, like German food and beer, and don't mind a smack talking German lady then this place is right up your alley!

The food is delicious and tastes very homemade .beware this is a long dinner! We were there for about 3 hours from start to finish. The owner sat with us and spoke about her life and cracked some dirty jokes. As long as you are easy going and love comfort food and fascinating company, you will have a fantastic time.

This is a fantastic and fun atmosphered restraunt with some amazing food. They are small and very homestyleish so make a reservation and dont come if you are in a rush everything you will eat here is actually cooked to order, and you will be able to tell in the quality. It's a small but perfected menu that will leave you incredibly happy with whatever choice you make. And the owner Elli is one of the sweetest people I have met. Truth is, you just cant get food like this almost anywhere anymore, so please take a night off with 2-3 hours to spare and come eat this food and support this restraunt I cant think of anyone locally that deserves it more than this them.

We have went here this weekend will be our 4th we go every weekend the menu changes every week ohh and Mrs. Wendy I love her she has authentic German. She welcome’s everyone with open arms. You can even request something you want for your reservation but you have to do it the week before so she can get prepared. I have taken Mrs. Wendy as my mom. We will continue to go every weekend we can. This is a must place to go for a good hearty meal in prosperity or even if you are wanting to try it out and you are Columbia you will not regret the meal or the drive great drive and you get to see some of the great heritage. Again come and try.

Gasthaus Zur Elli is meant to be experienced. Call a week ahead for reservation. This isn't some chain restaurant where they sit you down, take your order, give you your food and send you on your way. Plan to spend a little more time than usual here. Miss Wendy will make it worth your time

We are from Germany, living in SC now. Miss Wendy cooked authentic German food. We felt like home in mother's kitchen. She is friendly, entertaining - just a real German character! Gave us German coffee and Gummibears as a gift. Enjoyed this evening with friends, we will come back for sure!

Loved our dinner experience. Cozy atmosphere, fun place, great food at good prices. Very relaxed dining experience so don't plan to eat and run. Make a reservation. And did I say great food!

Food was amazing! The owner is like a fun, feisty Grandma! The restaurant is as if you're sitting in her parlor. It's small and eclectic. We'll definitely go back!
