This was a really cool hike but I believe that we were being watched by a large kitty judging by the footprints 🫢

Went trail riding with some friends while we were visiting NC. The trails were clean and great. Brought the horses to a small creek crossing and they were able to play a little bit. Very peaceful and quiet.

Even though this is on the outskirts of Fayetteville it is still a remote area, mainly because the stretch from here to the Raleigh area is fairly rural. I drove south from the Raleigh suburbs.

My wife and I were the only people in the park on a toasty fall day.

This place reminded me of the Pine Barrens in my native New Jersey. Pristine, beautiful and a bit eerie due to the silence and lack of wildlife.

Expect an easy hike on flat land.

Big parking lot.

Easy to find.

It's a lovely place to walk/hike. The trails are maintained well and are easy to walk. There are beautiful views of the long leaf pines. Overall, it's a great place to walk.

Ya know, to me you can't really go lower than 5 stars for any state park as long as they check two boxes: outdoor recreation and well maintained facilities. This had both! Granted the Longleaf Pine Trail was an out an back, a loop would have been nice. It's a new park, maybe that will happen in the future. The sandy trails were nice because the act of walking didn't make a lot of noise which allowed me to hear the wind blowing in the pines, love that. Oh yes from what I saw its multi-use so get out there on your mountain bike, walking legs or horse. Enjoy!

Do you like sand and pine trees? All the trails are wide enough to drive a truck down. Parking area is huge with a nice pit privy. Dead end spur trail did not disappoint and is a must see. No camping.

This is a new access to carvers creek, there are not a lot of people. Very quiet. Horses are allowed on this trail, just watch your dogs to make sure they don't roll in poo. I'm updating to add, there are a lot more people accessing this state park than there used to be, but it's still a nice quiet place. The parking lot completely fills on the weekends, but there's plenty of trail space and miles of trails. Lots of wildflowers and mushrooms to look at.

Great walk. Trails accessable for hikes, bikes, and horses. No motor vehicles. Dogs are allowed on leash. Lots of parking. Only facility is a vault style toilet, which is clean. No water, bring your own. Beaver pond and another small pond to hike to. Lot of trails.

Been to both locations plenty of times, but absolutely love the Sandhills Access.

Great overall natural environment/trails quiet enough to hear the full spectrum of grace within the sounds of the wind through the forest. A lot of wildlife lives in the park that often won't be seen unless you come frequently and during early or late hours of the day. ***Dog/horse/etc owners be aware of broken glass fragments along the longleaf pine trail section adjacent to McCloskey Rd. Some malevolent drinkers enjoy the park with their booze on occasion too.***

Great place for a hike or bike ride. Saw a handful of folks riding horses as well. The trails are more than wide enough to accommodate everyone, and everyone was respectful to others on the trail. It's easy to hike with a little deep sand here and there. It is easy to hike a mile or two or into the teens depending on how you plan your route. There are benches along the trail provided by a Scout's Eagle project that were great when we stopped about halfway through our hike for a short lunch.

Had a nice run on the trails, not many people seem to know about this place yet. Looking forward to bringing the dog here once it cools down some.

Uninhabited by humans. Trails are pretty nice but very sandy in some areas. Bike riding is permitted but I honestly wouldn't put mine in that sand and even if I did there are some areas where the sand is so deep I can't imagine being able to pedal through it. If you feel the need to escape humanity and get away from the herd of unawares I would definitely recommend this place. I went on a weekday and saw four other people who were on horseback and none of whom were screaming or playing music on their cell phones.

Love it! 10+ miles of dirt trails through longleaf pine trees. Good for hiking, running, mountain biking through the sand, and even open for horseback riding. There are two open air bathrooms at the parking lot as well.

Awesome place for a trail run. Mostly packed sand/gravel trails through a beautiful forest. Largely flat with some small hills. Felt like I had the place to myself on an early Sunday morning. Will probably make this my new spot for weekend long runs. Only con I can think of is they open at 8am (I like to start my runs a bit earlier).

In May 2019, Carvers Creek State Park opened the Sandhills access with over 10 miles of multi-use trails just north of Fayetteville. We took our dog here for a hike on the sandy trails. Longleaf Pine is a 4 mile trail through the area, with the other trails looping off from it. It's a beautiful longleaf pine forest with great trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. And it's still relatively unknown, as we only saw a couple other people during our hike.

Great place to go to get out into nature.
You could visit for a short nature walk or hike for a few hours on the different trails.
Plenty of parking, the trails are well marked, and there's lots of pretty scenery along the way. You might even see some people riding horses there.
Detailed guide on my website if you'd like more info on what to expect.

This is a great place to take the family and dogs on a walk through the woods. Lots to see. Also a great place to go on a run, and not alot of foot traffic. This is by far one of the best little secrets of Fayetteville.
