Maddi usually waits on us and she is great. Everyone at Gills is friendly and takes care of their customers.

What an awesome time we had! Total diner/dive, with excellent food and service! Anitra was so attentive, and two other servers checked on us too. I believe that was the owner who greeted us at the door, and asked us how it was as we left. Very nice. The TBC was perfect, and I never eat all the fries, but I also nibbled off my husband’s plate too! So crispy! We’ll be back. Soon!

The food was so good that I forgot to take pictures of it. I would highly recommend this restaurant! The only downfall like most breakfast places in Rockford/Loves Park area is that they close at 2 p.m. They probably would have an excellent croud if they were open in the evening.

Sooo it's been 10 yrs since last was at Gills and was not disappointed!!! Food was hot and waitresses was very friendly!!! The place hasn't changed but it looks good still...

When I first moved to Illinois this is where my fiance and her relatives took me to eat and I've been back a few times and it's always really really good. The hostess and waitresses are very attentive and very polite.

I ordered the country omelet it has biscuits and grave In the middle... OMG IT WAS GOOD. The service was great. Our waitress must of came back to our table 5 or 6 time making sure everything was OK. The new owner even stopped to check on us. I seen him do this to several tables. YES I WILL BE GPOING BACK

Great diner, attentive staff, good food.

Staff is friendly, not too busy and food is great and so are the prices. I’ve been there a lot over the last 15 years, but one of the servers remembered me from 3 months ago and was asking how I was doing because she remembered I was severely injured at work and she wanted to make sure I was healing ok and check up on me and my wife, which we just got married 18 months ago. One of my favorite dinners in Machesney Park and it’s been around for a long as I can remember, at least 25-30 years now.

The new owners have picked up the ball and RAN with it! Food has always been good, but I have noticed the service quality has gone up. Not saying it was bad prior, just a noticed sense of urgency in taking care of the tables.

Always a fantastic breakfast. In 30 years of eating here, I have never had anything but breakfast. (Original review)

(New review). Gill's is now under new ownership and seems to be experiencing what most established places experience when new owners take over. They have their own thoughts on existing staff, have great ideas on cutting costs, and have this undeniable need to make it their own. Forgetting the fact that they purchased a place with a long history and a staff that knew most customers and made them feel welcome. They were friendly and rarely made mistakes. Not exactly what the new staff exemplifies much of. Gill's is beginning to slip on the whole experience and I really hope they can correct it all before losing it all and forced to start over. I am not Complaining about anything in particular, if just seems the service and the food quality have suffered slightly.
