Itawamba Historical Society

They have extensive research material available for Itawamba County. A large section of family histories are also available. The staff was incredibly helpful as we worked over several days in their library researching our family history. They even helped connect my husband up with a cousin he didn't know he had. We enjoyed a great visit with him in the library. This is an outstanding resource for genealogists researching families in Itawamba County.

The host was super helpful. We were there on a genealogy research trip. When I told him what I was looking for, he produced a book with a captioned photo of my great grandfather, great grandmother, grandfather, several of his siblings and their spouses, all at the family home in Mantachie, taken c. 1905. He told me that my great grandfather was the first mayor of Mantachie. I asked where I might find documentation of my grandfather and grandmother's wedding, which I had been unable to find. He made a suggestion which later proved productive. He also found a picture, c. 1920, of my grandparent's first home in Guntown MS. He knew the names of many of the people in my father's family, and it turned out he and I were distantly related by marriage. It was a most productive visit!

Really enjoyed the program on Black history that the Tupelo museum presented. I am proud of the hard work were willing to go though to find the information they needed for there presentation on the 1936 tornado. Looking forward to another presentation and fellowship with the society.
