It's not nearly as bad as some of these other reviews lead to believe. Nothing / No one scary or intimidating. Im guessing it may be a different story at night, but why would you be in here at night anyway, weirdo. I saw several people taking a casual stroll thru along the paved roadway thru the cemetery, some walking dogs. None of which i was worried would suddenly attack me or anything of the like. Although you can see the damage from many years of vandalism and neglect, contrary to some reviews, this cemetery is pretty well maintained currently. I spent about 2 hours here enjoying the peace and queit paying my respects to those that passed before us. So, long story short, definitely check this cemetery out if this is your kinda thing or if you just want to take a peaceful stroll and reflect.

Beautiful cemetery, please visit the north section, this is an incredible place. Gigantic mausoleums and monuments, diverse plant life, very well kept.

Every bit as beautiful as Bonaventure, but far less crowded because most people don't know it is even here.

This cemetery has a South & a North side, I would do some research and decide if you want to visit both. I spent a few hrs visiting a historic cemetery which has a slave burial ground area. They also have a few burial sections for the unknown thru out. The cool thing is you can drive thru most of it, streets are clearly marked. They could do a better job taking care of the grounds. Some of the other well known cemeteries have tours, guides and well take care of...

I love going to old cemeteries and wandering around, most of them have so much history. They don't have a office like some of the well known cemeteries with staff. Upon entering the grounds they do have maps and a few thing marked. My advice would be go online and look at a few reviews to get more info if you are looking for something specific. Even the maps need to be redone. Things should be clearly marked, its history.

I recommend a visit, review the grounds, maybe things will change in the near future

This is a place I wouldn't want to be after dark. Not because of the cemetery, but because of the neighborhood.
Interesting historical graveyard.

There is only one nice part of this cemetery and it’s by the canal, where there aren’t any gravestones. There’s a lot of open, unused space here which is nice for dogs. The area is very sketchy and not safe after the sun goes down. Many homeless people live in the park nearby that cut through here often as a shortcut. The Laurel Grove North Cemetery feels much safer and appears to be in better condition.

Cool Cemetery but a major overhaul is needed. More broken headstones than I can remember and a lot of graves flood when it rains.

It's very pretty BUT we came looking for a certain family member and needed help finding a plot and no one was here to help and no one ever answered the phones either. Not sure if we will ever find it without help.
