Great access point to the AT for a day hike (or longer) to Walker's Gap with views of Burke's Garden.

Turned on State Route 625 from 42 (Blue Grass Trail). 625 is a narrow, winding, dirt road with lots of elevation changes and plenty of potholes. AWD not a must, but felt helpful. I was surprised to see a number of homes along the way. Large parking area at the AT crossover. Continued on 625 until intersecting with Buchanan Highway (16) to check out Burke's Garden.

Room for 3 or 4 cars. Left ours for 3 nights, no issues.

Hikers should show a little more courtesy , with their trash.. The members of the Virginia Bear Hunters Association picks up their trash in this area every year, sometimes a small amount, & sometimes its bad...
