Afton Mountain Vineyards

Love that they cater towards smaller parties. With so many options in the area, not sure why large parties come expecting to be accommodated without reservations. A large party showed up just before I left and had a bad attitude about their policy. There were multiple signs while driving in stating the policy as well as on their website.

Keep the small group vibe! Loved it!

Third visit to Afton Winery. Afton Winery wines are some of the best wines I have had the pleasure of tasting.

It's a little pricey for amateur's but worth the experience.

The views are absolutely gorgeous, wine tasting room is surrounded by glass windows with lots of seating inside and outside. They also rent cabins and bed and breakfast.

Highly recommend checking it out.

First, let me state, that I am not much of a wine drinker so I hesitated about us stopping here, but it's my friend's absolute favorite winery in the area. I was recommended to try a white German wine and I have to say it was absolutely wonderful. Trust me, no one was more shocked than I was. So now that I'm at this winery and I like the wine I'm looking around and this place is stunning. There are chairs outside that have gorgeous views of trees and luscious scenery. The inside with its wooden interior is so spacious and welcoming. I wish I lived closer so I could continue to come here and sample their wine.... They may have converted me lol

Great wine! Not super sweet which I love. Doggos are allowed outside! The nice lady doing the tasting for me gave me a few hiking ideas (which were great because I came thinking I would see a view, and it’s so foggy you can’t see anything up on the mountain). Very peaceful place!

Breathtaking views, great wine, and really really nice wait staff.
They have a beautiful glass walled pavilion that gives you 360° views of the vineyard. The bathrooms are very clean, the Flights come in really cool small glass jars. The wait staff noticed we were a bridal party and offered to take photos for us at the vines and even gave us cool photo ideas. Overall a great experience Highly Highly recommend checking this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Friends and I stopped here for a few minutes before reservations at another winery and we were so impressed, we wished we hadn't made the other reservations! The view is amazing and the glass Pavillion is really nice. Staff was super friendly and the wine was excellent. We are planning another trip back to Afton Mountain with more time to enjoy it all!

Our favorite winery in central Virginia! I Iove a majority of their wines, which is odd for me and we have been part of their wine club for years. Their reds are fanstastic. I recommend their Bacco, Marlot, Tradition (especially 2017), Chardonnay and Gewurzteaminer. The location is gorgeous with a panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Outside open and covered seating is available, as well as an enclosed pavilion. They are kid and dog friendly! Fantastic and friendly staff.

Fun 'bagged ' tasting presented in baby jelly jars. Nice place with great views and dog friendly.

We came from Shenandoah National Park and wanted a stop to relax (after all the day hiking) and found this winery very close to the south entrance. Nice environment, friendly lady serving and good wine. They serve European style reds and some varietal whites, even some bubbles. Good choice!

Complimentary wine tasting.
Beautiful views, goats, free range chickens.
Bought a few wonderful bottles of wine that are produced and bottled by Afton unlike some other local wineries.
Great pavilion with a/c on this hot summer week.
We really enjoyed the self serve tasting and our stay.
Definitely worth visiting!

What a beautiful setting, both inside and outside and great options for tastings! Thank you to Emily for answering my questions before we arrived on our winery tour and to all the wonderful ladies who met who were so welcoming and excited for the bride! I definitely recommend the flight tastings!

Edited to add: We asked Emily to take photos of the group and she happily ran down to show us where to take the best photos AND brought us a bottle of wine on the house so we had a glass in hand. VERY, VERY much recommend this vineyard for the day OR a stop on your vineyard tour if you’re looking for Southern hospitality, beautiful goods, great company and delicious drinks! We look forward to coming here again one day!

Beautiful place off the beaten path with some fantastic wines. I love the idea of the small cottages that you can rent for a weekend.

Loved their covid experience. Bags with numbered wines to taste. We had a blast. And it was a welcome spot with some wind barriers on a windy day. Very pretty views.

My wife and I visited Afton Mountain Winery last Saturday and really enjoyed ourselves. The winery is set in an idyllic, peaceful valley with beautiful mountain landscapes. We sampled the 5 wine tasting and enjoyed a second glass of wine as well. There was plenty of space to relax on the property and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the products they were serving. Bring your lunch and snacks and settle in for a great environment to sample Virginia wines.

My wife and I just visited this past weekend to celebrate our 1year anniversary. As newbies to the world of wine we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgible staff who happily informed my wife and I of a military discount that they gave, as well as a beautiful property with plenty of cozy intimate seating and a nice ambiance. The perfect place to propose to your lady or do some romantic like what you see in a movie. The vineyard sits right at the base of the mountain, so you'll have beautiful photo ops. Thanks to the staff for making our special day so perfect. No dog house for me for quite some time !

I've been here several times and absolutely love it-- it's my favorite winery! It has incredible views and is very quiet and relaxing. I love how they only allow small groups as opposed to other wineries where you might encounter five bachelorette parties in just an hour of being there! This trip we stayed at one of the cottages on the property (highly recommend) so walked over here two days in a row.

On Saturday we did the formal wine tasting that they just recently added post-covid. It was amazing! For $25 you get a full hour of wine tasting over in the main building (which for now is still closed to the public). We learned so much during the tasting-- he gave us lots of details not only about the wines themselves but also about the winery and the process of how they make the wines. We were able to ask lots of questions and learned interesting things about how weather affects the output each year. We also learned that most wines aren't vegan which we hadn't realized! Fun party fact to share :)

On Sunday we walked back over and did the diy tasting (just to enjoy the variety of reds and whites) and then snacks and a bottle that we enjoyed in the pavilion as well as out on the chairs overlooking the vines and on the covered deck by the lake. There were very few people there on Sunday so it was very relaxing.

This place is amazingly beautiful, such picturesque scenery. The wines were amazing compared to other nearby places. The staff was incredibly friendly.

Lush and beautiful scenery is the highlight at Afton Mountain Winery. The wine that accompanies it will not disappointed. The reds are better than the white, but not by a wide margain. The Bocco 18 was my favorite. Call ahead if you have more than 6 people.

What a beautiful vineyard and such friendly staff. Did the $14 flight with the charcuterie board. All the wine tastings were unique. Well worth the visit

The staff knew a lot about the wine and the history of the winery. Some of the wines were unique to this location and everything was great. The outdoor seating has great views.
