Port Mercer Parking Lot - D&R Canal

2/24/2021:

It’s a spot I parked for the #8 section of my hiking-thru-the Canal plan. It was a nice sunny day but the trail was still covered in heavy snow. So it was quite difficult for me to walk thru. I had to cut my initial planned trip short. So I turned back when I reached Carnegie Road, where I saw another parking spot on another side of the trail.

On my way, I passed thru the cool steel Route 1 overlook pedestrian bridge. There’s a nice parking lot right by the bridge on the right side of Route 1 North, couple hundred yards before the ramp to I-295.

I finished a round trip to 6 miles from Quackerbridge Road to/from Carnegie Road.

3/4/2021:

Today I parked right at the lot by the steel bridge and then walk to Whitehead Road (there’s parking spots by the trail on Whitehead Road) in Trenton and back for 5.8 miles.

When you turn back thru the bridge on Baker Basin Road, make sure you walk across the bridge to the left side so that you can reach the steel bridge directly. Otherwise the right side trail will lead you to Route 1 and then you have to walk on the side of the busy road for a hundred yards to get back to the bridge.

Such a crazy lot I love it very much always does the job

Convenient parking for accessing the canal trail Northbound towards Princeton or Southbound is a pretty stretch.
